This GeoPackage contains ten layers representing data from a variety of landscape metrics used to analyze the landscape context of Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area (BICA). Their names, descriptions and categorization are as follows:
Study Area
- BICA_Boundary. This layer represents the area managed by the National Park Service (NPS), Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area. This layer does not include approximately 56,000 acres of land included in the establishing legislation that overlaps Crow tribal lands and is not intended to represent legal or official boundary placement.
- BICA_30km. This layer represents the study area within a 30-kilometer buffer around and including BICA’s managed lands.
Population
- CensusBlockGroups_1990. This feature class contains block group polygons, population totals and calculated population attributes for the 1990 Census.
-
CensusBlockGroups_2000. This feature class contains block group polygons, population totals and calculated population attributes for the 2000 Census.
-
PADUS_v1_No_Water. This feature layer uses Protected Areas Database of the United States 1.0 (PADUS) data to depict polygons, including parcel names and Gap Analysis Project (GAP) status code. One record exists for ‘Open Water’ in the PADUS_v1_No_Water data source, representing the portion of Bighorn Lake in Wyoming.
-
US_Counties_with_Projections. Park-specific subset of County-level population projections derived from the NPScape project source data set based on a specified area of analysis. The attributes table contains population projections for Big Horn, Carbon and Yellowstone counties in Montana and Big Horn, Park and Sheridan counties in Wyoming for the years 2000, 2005, 2010, 2015, 2020, 2025 and 2030. Also included is the area, in square kilometers, of each county polygon.
Roads
- Major_Roads. This is a source dataset for the NPScape project; U.S. and Canada Major Roads represents the major roads of the United States and Canada. These include interstates, inter-metropolitan area, and intra-state highways and major roads. The attributes table contains the length, in miles, of each polyline.
-
Streets. This layer contains street data from ESRI Data and Maps - U.S. and Canada Detailed Streets, TeleAtlas 2005. The attributes table contains the length of each polyline.
-
AreasWithout_AllRoads. This is a product of the NPScape project. This feature class contains road data and calculated attributes derived from ESRI street map sources. The attributes table contains the area, in square kilometers, of each polygon.
Conservation Status
- PADUS1_3. This layer from PADUS 1.3 includes NPS parcel data and GAP Status Codes in partnership with NPS Lands and NPScape.
