    • Conservation and Communities Project Madagascar Baseline Household Survey 2019

    This data asset contains data from the baseline household survey carried out in 2019 in the two geographies in which the USAID Madagascar’s Conservation and Communities Project (CCP) operates. The two geographies are the MaMaBay and Menabe land- and seascapes. The data asset contains data related to four themes: (1) housing and land tenure, (2) livelihoods and food security, (3) perceptions of ecosystem services and threats to biodiversity; and (4) conservation knowledge and behaviors, including participation in community-based natural resource management (CBNRM). A total of 1,100 households were surveyed. The sampling design utilized a stratified, multistage sampling approach. In the first stage, 44 enumeration areas (EAs) were selected. EAs were defined by the National Statistical Agency of Madagascar (INSTAT) for the 2018 decennial census. EAs were selected with probabilities proportional to size using the area’s population as a measure of size. In the second stage, households were selected within each sampled EA. The sampling of EAs was stratified by the two geographies, MaMaBay and Menabe, and further divided into two sub-areas (marine and terrestrial). A self-weighting sample was achieved by selecting EAs with probabilities proportional to size and equal-probability sample of equal size within EAs. This data asset includes a micro-level dataset containing household-level data that is split into survey modules.
