Lineage | September - October 2024 Input Data 1. Feature Classes: 2020 Census block group shapefiles for American Samoa. 2. Land Cover Rasters: 2022 NOAA C-CAP rasters for water, impervious surface, and canopy for each territory. (https://coastalimagery.blob.core.windows.net/ccap-landcover/CCAP_bulk_download/High_Resolution_Land_Cover/Phase_1_Initial_Layers/index.html) 3. Population Data: 2020 decennial census tables of population by block group for each territory (https://www.census.gov/geographies/mapping-files/time-series/geo/cartographic-boundary.2020.html#list-tab-1883739534). Processing Steps 1. Coordinate Transformation o Block group feature classes were transformed from NAD 1983 to WGS 1984 UTM Zone 2S. o Rasters were already in WGS 1984 UTM Zone 2S. 2. Land Cover Tabulation o Areas for each land cover raster were calculated per block group using Tabulate Area with the AFFGEOID column as the zone field. o Tabulated results were joined to the block group feature class via the AFFGEOID column. 3. Calculations Five derived fields were added to the block group attribute table and calculated as follows: o PercentLandCanopy = (Area of canopy (value 1)/Area of land (water value 0))×100 o PercentLandImpervious = (Area of impervious surface (value 1)/Area of land (water value 0))×100 o PercentLandVegetation = (Area of canopy (values 1 + 2)/Area of land (water value 0))×100 o CanopyImpRatio = Area of canopy (value 1)/Area of impervious surface (value 1) o VegetationImpRatio = Area of canopy raster (values 1 + 2)/Area of impervious surface (value 1) Note: In the canopy raster, values 1 and 2 represent "canopy" and "scrub/shrub" respectively. In the impervious raster, value 1 represents impervious surface. In the water raster, value 0 represents land area and value 1 represents water area. 4. Population Data Integration o The 2020 census population table was joined to the block group table via the AFFGEOID column. 5. Per Capita Metrics Three additional fields were added and calculated as follows: o CanopyPerCapita = Area of canopy (value 1)/Population o ImperviousPerCapita = Area of impervious surface (value 1)/Population o VegetationPerCapita = Area of canopy (values 1 + 2)/Population The final tables for each of the three territories were merged. |
