    Rhode Island Avenue Metro Underpass Flood Hazard Area

    On August 14, 2023, approximately 2 inches of rain fell in less than an hour at this ___location, flooding the underpass, stranding cars, and filling a pet daycare business with 6 feet of water. To account for this area’s history of flooding and recent property damage and loss of life, the DC Flood Hazard Rules now regulate land near this ___location that is below the NAVD88 elevation of 94.5 feet.This elevation is derived by adding 5.5 feet to the at-grade elevation of 89 feet NAVD88 of the pet daycare storefront that was flooded. 5.5 feet is used because it is a close approximation of the reported 6 feet of water in the facility and OCTO has contour data for the elevation of 94.5 feet NAVD88.
