I cannot abide the distraction that Copilot entails. Hence I want to know how do get rid of or disable or at least hide the annoying icon that pops up in the Microsoft 365 programs?

Ok, so Option #1 is no longer viable:

Navigate to Settings > Org settings > Microsoft 365 Copilot (or search for “Copilot”).

    Does not exist.

You must search (up the top of the screen) for "copilot" and then navigate multiple settings pages for all the areas that microdaft have decided need copilot.

As a user, your opinion does not count. Just pay the money and accept every brain-dead concept they throw at you.

To paraphrase Richards comment above, "more time wasted achieving nothing, with systems that are meant to make us more productive"!! What a farce.

Microsoft doesn't offer an easy “off” switch for Copilot in all cases, unless you're an admin on a Microsoft 365 Business/Education plan.

If You’re an IT Admin (Microsoft 365 Enterprise / Business):

You can disable Copilot via Microsoft 365 Admin Center or Group Policy.

Option 1: Disable via Microsoft 365 Admin Center

    Go to: https://admin.microsoft.com

Navigate to Settings > Org settings > Microsoft 365 Copilot (or search for “Copilot”).

Turn off Copilot for specific apps or users.

Option 2: Use Microsoft 365 Apps Admin Center (Policy)

Create a policy using Microsoft Intune or Group Policy to disable:

    • Connected experiences
    • Copilot in Office apps If You’re an IT Admin (Microsoft 365 Enterprise / Business): You can disable Copilot via Microsoft 365 Admin Center or Group Policy. Option 1: Disable via Microsoft 365 Admin Center
      1. Go to: https://admin.microsoft.com
      2. Navigate to Settings > Org settings > Microsoft 365 Copilot (or search for “Copilot”).

      • Connected experiences
      • Copilot in Office apps

You can do this by disabling features like:

Connected experiences that analyze your content

If You’re an End User (no admin access):

You can’t technically uninstall Copilot, but you can limit its visibility:

    Workarounds:

    1. Hide the Copilot button from the Ribbon (in Word/Excel)

Right-click the ribbon → Customize the Ribbon

Uncheck “Copilot” or drag it out of your tabs

    Click OK

This hides the icon but doesn’t fully disable the service.
