I'm looking to create a specific custom permission level in SharePoint that enables users to read, create, and edit content, but without the ability to delete

Im creating a custom permission level, as my current custom setup only provides 'Can view pages and list items and download documents' access.

However, once this permission level is established, I'm finding that when I try to share a folder, the sharing interface only presents 'Read' or 'Edit' options.

How I can apply my newly created 'add-only, no-delete' custom permission level when sharing a folder, specifically by generating a link, to ensure users can add content but are prevented from deleting it.

    Hi @KamaHalal,

Thank you for posting your question to Q&A.

I would like to make a clarification that this one is achievable as I tested from my side already. Please double-check from your end to see if this works or not.

The reason why you could not implement or make this permission worked is because the Document library inherited permission from its parent.

    1. Go to your SharePoint site > click on Document to go to Document section > Click on Settings (at the top right) > Library settings > More Library settings (Make sure that you click on Settings when you are in Documents section) User's image
    2. Click on Permission for this document library User's image
    3. Click on "Stop inheriting permission", this will allow your customized permission you created earlier to be working. User's image
    4. Now you could see that within the Documents section, you could add new items/documents, but you will not have the option to delete them. User's image

Please try this and let me know once you have the update.

    Dear @KamalHalal

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

Based on your inquiry, we understand that you have required to configure a custom permission level with prevent Delete permission for user in SharePoint Online. We will be glad to assist you in this part.

Based on my testing, I have found that custom permission levels might not allow you to configure this function as intended. In my perspective, the Edit permission could include the Delete action. Therefore, when you try to remove only the Delete permission, it may not effect.

For the next step, I would like to recommend you raising a support ticket directly through the Microsoft 365 Admin Center. This will connect you with Microsoft’s technical team, who can provide a more direct and effective solution for setting your request properly.

    1. Submit a Service Request: The Global Admin should create a service request with Microsoft support to get advanced technical assistance and diagnostics. For detailed instructions on how to get support, please refer to Get support - Microsoft 365 admin | Microsoft Learn.
    2. Find Your Microsoft 365 Admin: If you’re unsure who the Global Admin is within your organization, you can find guidance on locating them here: How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin? - Microsoft Support
    3. Call Microsoft Support: For additional assistance, use this link to find the appropriate contact number: Customer service phone numbers - Microsoft Support
    4. Contact a Reseller (if applicable): If your Office 365 subscriptions are managed through a federated partner or reseller and the Global Admin cannot open a service request, they should contact the reseller’s support provider. The reseller can assist with initiating the request and coordinating with the Office 365 support team.

We hope this information is helpful and appreciate your understanding.
