External Hard Drive not recognized after Microsoft Update KB5053598 Windows11 24H2
Hi, After installing Microsoft update KB5053598 some months ago, my Seagate external HD is not recognized on my Desktop Windows 11 24H2.
Once Desktop has started/running, and then connect the HD, it is not recognized AND it basically freezes the Desktop (can not open files or get into settings or even shutdown).
If however, with desktop shutdown and I connect the HD and then start desktop, the HD is recognized and everything functions ok).
I tried a family members 'Touro' HD and it is also not recognized unless connected and PC started.
Another 'Seagate' HD I have has no issues and is recognized immediately.
I have tried the HD in a W10 laptop and it is recognized immediately.
The following has been tried/performed etc to no avail.
- Tried different cords - no change (no damage to cords or connections.
- Under 'Disk Manager' no HD shows (unless HD connected and PC restarted then it shows up)
- HD letter changed but still not recognized
- Under 'Device Management' > 'Disk Drive' uninstalled the HD > restarted PC but HD still not recognized
- Have 'Run' device diagnostic tool - didn't find a problem
- Via 'CMD" typed in mountvol /e - didn't fix anything
- Have run deep system scans/scannow etc - no issues
- Have 'Reset PC' and reinstalled Windows - HD still not recognized
You would think from the above tries that the HD is corrupt etc but I'm 99.9% sure it is not.
Reasons being:-
- HD is recognized if connected to PC and the PC is turned on
- HD is recognized on a laptop
- HD is recognized on a Smart TV
So I have no idea what is casing this issue, except it all started after the MS update KB5053598 installed (and I can't uninstall it).
Any help/advice would be appreciated.
