Hi All,

We have confgured email subscriptions for few alerts.
My query is about, while closing the alerts manually from the console will also send email notifications to the users ?

After i close the same kind alerts in bulk from console iam getting the below two Crtical alerts related to the subscription which we have configured to send the email notifications for the above alerts iam talking about. I have not set any Resoltuion State in the Subcription criteria.

1)Failed to send notification
2)Failed to send notification using server/device.

Is it normal behaviour , if not how can i avoid sending email noifications to the users , incase if SCOM sends alerts by default when closing the alerts manually.
When i checked SMTP functionality is working fine.

Regards,
Ravi shankar

If it wasn't already stated, make sure your notification rules have a filter to limit the status to New. Otherwise you get an email for every alert status including closed.

    Hi @shankar431 ,

SCOM schould not send Mails when closing alerts, not by default at least. If you have configured a subscription, that for some reason sends mails up on resolution state changes, in particualr when the alert is updated from a "New" resolution state (or some other) to "Closed", then this could be the cause, otherwise SCOM won't send mails on alert closure.
As for the alerts you get: Can you please paste more details from the Alert Context? What does it say, what are the details? There should be an exception within the alert description... we need it in order to troubleshoot the issue.

Do you have a return address coonfigured?
Do you authenticate agains the SMTP Server?
Are your management servers, part of the "Notification Resource Pool" healthy?

Thanks in advance for providing some more details!

    Hi Ravi,

I meant the contect of the alerts:

    • Failed to send notification
    • Failed to send notification using server/device.

As already stated you should not get mails when closing those alerts if you haven't configured a subscription which kicks in when the Reslution State is set to Close.
You can allso test this very easily by adding a new subscriber to the subscription and puting your mail address in the subscriber.

    Hope this helps you out!
