posted on by Ken Iikura-Gross
The Boston Red Sox baseball team announced on Monday that One Piece lead character Monkey D. Luffy will throw the ceremonial first pitch for the One Piece Theme Day game at Fenway Park on May 3. According to the Red Sox, the ceremonial pitch is a first for the One Piece franchise. The first pitch is set to take place at 4:10 p.m on May 3. The event sold out in record time.

The Red Sox will face the Minnesota Twins during the May 3 event. Fans who purchased tickets will receive a Red Sox x One Piece jersey, and those who purchased a VIP ticket will also receive a Red Sox x One Piece baseball hat. Fenway Park will host several attractions: a fan meet-up at the Sam Adams Deck, photo-op with character mascots in the Big Concourse, and a ONE PIECE Card Game demo in the Big Concourse beginning at 1:40 p.m.
The Red Sox held a One Piece Day in August 2024 to celebrate the anime's 25th anniversary with a cosplay event, a performance by the Magnificent Danger band, and a limited-edition Monkey D. Luffy bobblehead “repping a Red Sox uniform.” One Piece has also collaborated with several sports teams in 2025 including the Los Angeles Lakers basketball team in February, the German football club Borussia Dortmund in March, and the Seattle Mariners baseball team in April.
