Nio (NYSE: NIO) has announced plans to enter new European markets, expanding its international reach through partnerships with distributors.

The Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker announced today that it is entering seven new European markets, according to an announcement posted on the social media platform X.

Nio will launch its vehicles in Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Luxembourg, Poland, and Romania in 2025 and 2026, it said.

"We're working with local distributor partners to make this growth possible. At the same time, we're introducing a multi-brand offering with both NIO and firefly to reach even more users," Nio said.

Nio's announcement on X did not provide further details, but it said on Weibo that it will launch a total of five models under the Nio main brand and Firefly in these markets.

These models include the Nio ES6, Nio ES8, Nio ET5, Nio ET5 Touring, and Firefly's current sole model.

Due to a trademark dispute with Audi, the ES series will be renamed the EL series in these markets.

In Belgium and Luxembourg, Nio will collaborate with the mobility services group Hedin Mobility Group.

In Central and Eastern Europe, it will partner with another mobility services group, AutoWallis, to first cover the Austrian and Hungarian markets in 2025, with plans to begin deliveries in the Czech Republic, Poland, and Romania in 2026.

Currently, some vehicles under the Nio main brand are available in Norway, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Denmark.

Nio announced on May 6, 2021, that it would enter the Norwegian market, marking its first overseas expansion.

On October 1, 2021, the company opened its first Nio House in Norway, its first showroom in Europe, officially entering the European market.

Since 2021, Nio has launched the ES8, ES7, ES6, ET7, ET5, and ET5T in Europe.

The company has made little progress in Europe over the past year, focusing its efforts on the Chinese domestic market.

Its last major move in Europe was the start of deliveries of the new ES8 based on the NT 2.0 platform in September 2024.

Over the past year, Nio's two sub-brands, Onvo and Firefly, have both launched their first models.

Onvo launched the L60 on September 19, 2024, with deliveries of the five-seat mid-size SUV beginning on September 28 in China.

Firefly officially launched its first model, named after the brand, in China on April 19, with deliveries beginning on April 29.

Nio had originally planned to launch the Firefly compact EV in Europe first, but higher tariffs forced it to change its strategy.

Firefly would select an appropriate time between June and August to launch its first model in Europe, Qin Lihong, Nio's co-founder and president, said while responding to a question from CnEVPost during a media roundtable in Shanghai on April 22.

By the end of this year, Firefly would enter about 20 overseas markets, with the right-hand drive version set to be ready by October at the latest, Qin said.

By the end of this year, Firefly will be in about 20 overseas markets, Nio president said.
