In the hope of collaboration, the current version means nothing to laymen. Wikipedia is written for the general publix, not professionals. I believe the current explanation given is absolutely nonsensical to the common reader, and a much simpler explanation is easily possible. If I have confused one variable, that variable can be changed. The useful technical information (geometric mean vs arithmetic mean) is best nested into the prose, as most people will not understand what either is. - <font color="#5A5AC5">ʄɭoʏɗiaɲ</font>&nbsp;<font color="#3AAA3A">τ</font> <font color="#3AAA3A">¢</font> 02:27, 8 August 2010 (UTC)
:The established text contains this point:
::2. Let xn+1 be the average of xn and S / xn (using the arithmetic mean to approximate the geometric mean).
:One large problem with that is the typography relating to the '/' which requires a fair bit of confidence to be interpreted as "divides". The following may be more accessible:
::2. Let xn+1 be the average of xn and the result from dividing S by xn (this uses the arithmetic mean to approximate the geometric mean).
