The stadium was opened on 15 September 2008. The opening ceremony featured a speech by [[Ukrainians|Ukrainian]] president [[Victor Yushchenko]], a concert performance by a number of famous Ukrainian musicians and two football matches: Veterans of [[Dynamo Kyiv]] vs [[FC Spartak Moscow|Spartak Moscow]] veterans, and Dnipro against [[Dynamo Kyiv]]. As a present to the club from the city the street that the stadium is situated on was renamed into Kucherevskyi Boulevard, in honour of Dnipro's late coach [[Yevhen Kucherevskyi]]. Dnipro played their first official game on 29 September 2008 against their local rivals [[FC Metalurh Zaporizhya]], but Dnipro lost 1–2. They set a new attendance record for the [[Ukrainian Premier League]] [[Ukrainian Premier League 2008–09|2008–09 season]], at 31,000 spectators.

Formation of the fan movement in Dnipropetrovsk began in the early [[1980s]]. Then on the stadium began to appear the first representatives of Dnipro ultras. Later was established one of the largest fans union - Braty po Zbroyi (English: Brothers in Arms) with Dnipro, [[Dynamo Kyiv|Dynamo]] and [[Karpaty lviv|Karpaty]].

Most of the fans hold right ideology ([[Ukrainian nationalism]]). Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk considered the third most popular club in [[Ukraine]] so home and away matches is visited by many people.

The most famous derby in eastern Ukraine is East Ferby between FC Dnipro and [[FC Metalist Kharkiv]]. The game at the stadium is very hard and almost every game ends in a fight of football fans from [[Dnipropetrovsk]] and [[Kharkiv]]. In [[Dnipropetrovsk]] is also a city derby between FC Dnipro and [[FC Kryvbas Kryvyi Rih]]. Dnipro maintains friendly relations with: [[Karpaty Lviv]], [[Dynamo Kyiv]] (Braty po zbroyi or Association of Brothers) and now defunct club [[Veres Rivne]]. Strained relations with: [[Shakhtar Donetsk]], [[Metalurg Zaporizhya]], [[Chornomorets Odesa]], [[Metalist Kharkiv]], [[Kryvbas Kryvyy Rih]] and [[Arsenal Kyiv]].

Now all fans have declared a truce because of the [[war in Eastern Ukraine]].
