Line 58:
* A music video was filmed for the song in New York.
* The US Army was going to use this song as a recruitment tool, until it was explained to them the context of the song.
* On August 13, 2006, the song was voted as the #1 Camp Classic to be on the New Zealand charts by New Zealand.
* The dance was performed on TV first on American Bandstand, it was however created by me Andrew Rakos at a gay under 18 club at the time called The Odessey on Beverly Blvd. I was an occasional "regular" dancer on American Bandstandin 79 -82. Most of the regulars used to dance at the Odessey 3 to 5 nights of the week, and we were all friends. There were a few songs at the time that were played regularly and had certain dance moves ex; Heaven is a Disco by Paul Jabarra and Time Warp from Rocky Horror Picture Show. A friend of mine from our group was a cheerleader, I created the movement as a way to tease him and have fun with our friends doing something we could all relate to. It took off, before long everyone in the club was doing it. Of course the week Village People went to American Bandstand most of us had been doing the dance for awhile already. During the show they stopped taping to add the movement to the show. If I remember correctly the Village People did NOT do the dance on the show, only us dancers. You can't imagine what it feels like to look upon hundreds and thousands of people doing the dance knowing it came from your heart.
