Re: MODIS and VIIRS Pixel Size Discrepancy between FIRMS Viewer and reported scan and track
Thanks for getting in touch and pointing this out. It looks like a scaling issue with latitude - we will look in to it more and work on a fix.

Regarding question 1: Data losses due to outages in the MODIS and VIIRS record, where data was not collected, are available at https://modaps.modaps.eosdis.nasa.gov/services/production/outages.html. This resource can be used to compare the observed periods of missing data relative to these outage pe...

Re: Comparing VIIRS Thermal Anomalies over Europe with FIRMS
Hi Conrad, It looks like v2.1 is the current version of the VIIRS active fire detection algorithm in CSPP. CSSP uses the NOAA fire algorithm. FIRMS uses the NASA algorithm - I am not sure what the differences in the algorithm. I have made an enquiry but not heard back yet. There will be a difference...

Hi Conrad,
You are looking to understand the differences between TA from a direct readout station and FIRMS. As you point out this could be due to a number of things but most likely the algorithm (including version) that is being used. What algorithm are you using?

Re: On annual summary data (FIRM MODIS)
Hi - Thanks for your interest in FIRMS. 1. You are correct - the archived FIRMS MODIS data colums columns 'brightness' and 'bright_t31' are both temperatures in Kelvin measured by different wavelengths (4 or 11 um as in the paper). You can find out about the attributes here: https://www.earthdata.na...
