Hello,
I am currently working on a project regarding wildfires in the SE United States with focus on the Great Dismal Swamp NWR (GDS) using NASA analysis alongside other organizations analyses. The project will potentially estimate how often fires occurred before European settlement transpired. Then, this project will provide insight on how often a prescribed fire should be conducted to ensure wildfires, when they occur, do not get out of control. I am currently searching for data to apply towards my project that includes parameters such as: Air quality (aerosols), windspeed, precipitation, and biodiversity levels. If possible, I’d like to also obtain imagery showing the swamp before and after the wildfires that devastated the Atlantic White Cedar stand.
The time scale includes the past two decades (2000-2020) but can be limited to particular years such as 2003 and 2008.

Hello,
For data variables pertaining to air quality, windspeed, and precipitation, I would recommend starting with our Giovanni system, https://giovanni.gsfc.nasa.gov. For the before/after images, you could try Landsat imagery at the Land Processes DAAC for the highest resolution. I do not know the timing of the fires; NASA Worldview (https://worldview.earthdata.nasa.gov/) has MODIS imagery back to 1998, up to 250 meter spatial resolution.

The MIL3DAEN_4 product provides daily aerosol optical depth going back to February 2000 and is available through Earthdata Search: https://search.earthdata.nasa.gov/search?q=MIL3DAEN_4. CALIPSO also provides a vertical aerosol profile from the LIDAR Level 2 Version 4.20 5-km Aerosol Profile data product available through the CALIPSO subsetter: https://subset.larc.nasa.gov/calipso/index.php. We have also created storymaps for the 2019-2020 Australian wildfires showcasing these products and others for use in fires: https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/9ebbe1b54dc847f2a7dd01917c9f3071.

The Great Dismal Swamp (GDS) is part of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and has been studied extensively by the USGS, both part of the Department of the Interior. The fire history is closely related to the surface water management system of canals and dams, and GDS staff collect data for numerous research activities including fires. Water levels are actively monitored and managed by USACE and is publicly available. In addition to the NASA datasets at ASDC and GES DISC, GDS staff have access to multiple datasets including imagery, lidar, soils, ecosystems, species identification, and more on-site. Interested researchers should contact Chris Lowie and/or Fred Wurster at the Great Dismal Swamp as these individuals have been involved in GDS research for some time.

Thank you for your reply. However, I am looking for products that are a little more intuitive and products that can be specifically used in ArcGIS. Currently, I am looking for products that display the PM 2.5 analysis in the summers of 2008 and 2011. I have recently come across the MISR Global Aerosol Optical Depth product (https://arcgis.asdc.larc.nasa.gov/portal/home/item.html?id=132c4415455f498592ca77cd220f94b6) and the MOPITT A Priori CO Total Column Day product (https://arcgis.asdc.larc.nasa.gov/portal/home/item.html?id=465d254468764e31b6e38b8e5febb01f) but the data is missing for the period I need. Is there any other product you can suggest that would supply the information requested? If so, could you please supply me with a summary of the product you are suggesting and recommendations and or comments that could enhance how to use them?

SEDAAC has some great global maps of PM2.5, however because it's global, it will not have good resolution for a small region like the Great Dismal Swap. They don't have all years, but only a few like 2005, 2010, 2015, etc.
Check out this website for more info about the Global Annual PM2.5 Grids from MODIS, MISR and SeaWiFS Aerosol Optical Depth (AOD) with GWR, v1 (1998 – 2016). Click on the "Map Services" tab to download data in an ArcGIS-friendly format:
