Predicting forest fires for a project
Hi everyone,
I am new to this platform so I don't know if this is the correct place to ask such a question. I am writing my bachelor thesis on predicting forest fires and the information available is so abundant that it's easy to get lost. I am familiar with data science and machine learning however, I am unfamiliar with spatial data so far. I was wondering if there is any data available in csv that shows lat and lon (probably some grid of 500m by 500m) and if there was a forest fire within that grid. My goal is to add more data to that csv that has relevant factors such as temperature, precipitation, etc. From there I can do some ML but I am stuck at the data retrieval phase.
Any input is appreciated!

Note that data stored as CSV can be a large data volume, and it is not uncommon to find data in different formats that can be converted to CSV.

I want to use the globalfiredata dataset, is that a reliable dataset? I just want to make sure that somebody didn't just make up a bunch of data. ok thank you.

We do not archive that particular dataset, but it is based on MODIS data (NASA satellite instruments) and is produced under NASA funding. So it is very likely a reliable dataset. You can learn more about it on their introductory Web page, https://www.globalfiredata.org/. One of the leaders of this dataset development, Dr. Randerson, is a noted researcher on the role of fires in the Earth climate system. Personally, I have been aware of his name and research efforts for several years.
