Earthdata Forum Releases New Favorite Tag Feature

The Earthdata Forum is pleased to announce the full release of the new favorite tag feature in the latest promotion of version 1.4.1 to production. Following the soft launch and successful testing of the new favorite tags feature, this version now includes the ability for users to select the favorite tags that they would like to be notified of when posts with their favorited tags are approved on the Earthdata Forum.

Tags are used to help identify questions related to common Earthdata Forum topics and assist users in easily discovering information related to their area(s) of research.

To configure your settings and manage tags, please follow these instructions:
1. Login to the Earthdata Forum, and navigate to the User Control Panel (UCP) located under your username in the top right-hand corner.
2. Select the “Board preferences” tab, then the “Manage favorite tags” option.
3. Select the tags you want associated as your favorite(s), then select Submit. Add or remove tags as desired.

You will receive notifications either via email or within the Forum notifications tab for new posts created that include your favorite tags. When you view posts on the Forum, those associated with tags you have favorited will display the heart icon on the tag

. You may edit your notifications by selecting the “Edit notification options” directly above the “Manage favorite tags” option.

Additionally, if you’d like to view Forum posts that are associated with your selected favorite tags, you can now select the “My Favorites” link located next to the “Quick links” menu option.

Feature suggestion:

As a user, I want to favorite a tag without having to go to the manage favorites page.

A way to do this may be to include open heart icons next to the tags in the quick filter list. Here's an mockup using DAAC tags. In this example, the user has a favorite of GHRC, but while searching by ORNL DAAC, they realize they would like to have ORNL DAAC as a favorite also. They just click the open heart icon to add that tag to their favorites.
