Inquiry About Cloud Thickness/Cloud Base/Cloud Top

by ASDCx - mcook » Wed Oct 09, 2024 10:43 am America/New_York

Hello,
I'm a PhD student at Tohoku university.
I tried many times to contact you but I received no reply.
I'm working on attenuation impact on laser transmission so I'm testing clouds impact. I tried my best to find this parameter cloud thickness but couldn't find then I knew it that we can calculate it from the cloud top height - cloud base height, I searched for them also but couldn't find.
Please please help me with this matter because it's really urgent for my research.
On NASA, Atmosphere data they offer cloud liquid water content in g/m2 but in order to calculate cloud number concentration in cm-3 and then visibility we need to convert cloud liquid water content from g/m2 to g/m3 and for that case we need cloud thickness.
I would really appreciate your guidance about this matter.

Cloud optical thickness is available in DSCOVR EPIC L2 CLOUD product, see https://search.earthdata.nasa.gov/search/granules?p=C1982417666-LARC_ASDC!C1982417666-LARC_ASDC&pg[1][a]=3261805455!LARC_ASDC&pg[1][v]=t&pg[1][gsk]=-start_date&pg[1][m]=download&pg[1][cd]=f&q=DSCOVR_EPIC_L2_CLOUD_03&tl=1728486826!3!!.
There are Cloud_Optical_Thickness_Liquid and Cloud_Optical_Thickness_Ice datasets in the /geophysical_data group of these granules.
