Libera Keywords
Hello GCMD,
We would like to add the Libera Project, Libera Radiometer, and Libera WFC to GCMD.
Libera (Project keyword):
Libera is the first NASA Earth Venture Continuity mission, developed to provide continuity with the Clouds and the Earth’s Radiation Energy System (CERES) mission. Libera will maintain the decades-long continuous, global data record of Earth’s radiation budget from the CERES mission that started in 2000. Libera is named for the daughter of Ceres in Roman mythology, acknowledging the relationship between this new mission and its predecessor.
The Libera instruments will fly on JPSS-4. Libera will measure solar radiation with wavelengths between 0.3 and 5 microns reflected by the Earth system and infrared radiation with wavelengths between 5 and 50 microns emitted from the Earth system as it exits the top of the atmosphere. The radiometer will also measure the total radiation leaving the Earth system at all wavelengths from 0.3 to 100 microns. An innovative additional “split shortwave” channel measuring radiation between 0.7 and 5 microns has been added to enable new Earth radiation budget science. The specific wavelength ranges Libera will observe will allow scientists to understand changes to Earth’s climate system, including the factors responsible for Earth’s energy imbalance—a deficit of outgoing energy —that is driving present-day climate change.

The Libera Radiometer keyword already exists in GCMD, and we would like to update the description.

Update to:
The Libera radiometer has four broadband channels that measure integrated shortwave (0.3–5 μm), longwave (5–50 μm), total (0.3–100+ μm), and split-shortwave (0.7–5 μm) radiance over 24 km nadir footprint.

Libera Wide Field of View Camera:
The Libera Wide Field of View Camera (WFC) is a monochromatic camera operating at 555nm over a 123-degree field of view that will continuously observe the entire Earth disk from low-earth orbit. The WFC provides a unique capability for scene identification and Angular Distribution Model (ADM) generation that supports the interpretation of the Libera radiometer measurements and complements similar measurements from the VIIRS instrument that will fly on JPSS-4 with Libera.
