Latency for Aqua MODIS SSF1deg?

by ASDCx - mcook » Thu Dec 12, 2024 1:05 pm America/New_York

What is the latency for SSF 1 degree daily aqua product?
The Terra product has been updated consistently, while the aqua product has not been updated since February 2023:https://asdc.larc.nasa.gov/data/CERES/SSF1deg-Day/Terra-MODIS_Edition4A/

Is there a ___location where I can access the updated version of this dataset?

The normal latency on the SSF1deg-Day product is about 10-weeks. Since there are multiple CERES instruments in the afternoon orbit, the decision was made to place the CERES instrument on Aqua into Rotating-Azimuth Plan mode to gather data for the improvement of Angular Distribution Models as Aqua drifts to latter times in the afternoon. RAPS data does not provide the necessary sampling for the Level 3 products; therefore, they are not being produced for Aqua. This transition occurred in March 2023. The CERES Science team's suggestion is to use the NOAA-20 Edition1B product (CER_SSF1deg-Day_NOAA20-VIIRS_Edition1B) for the afternoon orbit.

Thank you! Indeed, upon further inspection, the R^2 between VIIRS and Aqua versions of several key large-scale variables (surface skin temperature, wind speed, and inversion strength) derived from CERES sensors is around 0.99.
