GEDI - Timeline of Availability for New Data
Hi! I understand that in 2023, the GEDI instrument was temporarily shut down but then reinstated in its port on the ISS in mid-2024:

I was wondering when new data from the instrument will start being available online for science users? Even if the data themselves cannot be available for a while because of recalibration needs, is there anywhere we can check to see where and when areas have been imaged since the sensor was turned back on?
We have a few aerial LiDAR campaigns (one which already occurred in late 2024, one planned) and we'd love to know whether any of our study areas overlap with areas of recent GEDI coverage. It would also help us plan upcoming field work to have more information on the extent and areas of coverage.
Thanks!

Re: GEDI - Timeline of Availability for New Data
Hi @conormcmahon, Thank you for reaching out. GEDI mission data products covering mission weeks 281 to 311 (April to December, 2024) are being processed and should be available for public very soon. The locations of the GEDI footprint will also be available at that time.

Wonderful, thank you!
Is the best way to keep an eye out for the release to follow the GEDI X page? Is there a mailing list I could subscribe to for GEDI-related news or a Slack for people interested in using the data?

The best way to track the addition of new files is through the Earthdata Search Subscription service. This tutorial will guide you through creating a subscription. If you encounter any issues setting up a subscription for GEDI, please reach out for assistance.
When new versions of datasets are released, we typically do an announcement in this forum at app.php/tag/GEDI as well as on the NASA Earthdata https://www.earthdata.nasa.gov/news. The GEDI Science Team also announces on this webpage: https://gedi.umd.edu/category/latest-news/
