Question about PACE V3 reprocessing

by slsmit34 » Fri Mar 14, 2025 2:12 pm America/New_York

Hello,
I am trying to understand the changes that PACE OCI Level-2 AOP V3.0 has undergone. From OB.DAAC (https://oceancolor.gsfc.nasa.gov/data/reprocessing/V3.0/pace/), I have gathered that these are the key changes:
  • 1.application of system vicarious calibration gains
  • 2.correction for residual sensitivity through polarization models.
  • 3. improvement to the BRDF algorithm

Is this correct?

Also, I can access Version 3.0 data dating back to 1/1/2025, but I heard that historical V2.0 is expected to be back-processed in the future. Is this true?

P.S. V3.0 looks great! It is performing much better in the blue range for coastal waters.

Best,
Sami

The full mission back to 05-Mar-2024 was reprocessed with V3.0 in January. Where are you looking that you don't see it available?

Hi Tommy,
Thanks for the help. I see on the Earthdata portal that the Temporal Extent is '2024-03-05 ongoing,' but when I query results in the Chesapeake Bay through the portal, there are no resulting granules:
ED_Browser.PNG
ED_Browser.PNG (325.65 KiB) Not viewed yet
I also get no granules when running earthaccess on Python:
EA_code.PNG
EA_code.PNG (46.75 KiB) Not viewed yet
Note: the same code and variables (boundary, tspan) have granules for version = '2.0'. I can also retrieve V3.0 scenes from this code from 1/1/2025 onwards.

Best,
Sami

Your query is looking for Near Real Time (NRT) granules in a time range when there are only Refined granules available. The refined period is 05-mar-2024 through 31-Jan-2025. If you remove the "_NRT" from the collection name, you will be querying the correct collection.
