by captlen » Mon May 05, 2025 8:40 am America/New_York

I was using Browser level 1 & 2 to obtain turbidity data from Aqua Modis. Where can I find the new brower to obtain nrt.nc data? really would appreciate help bringing me back on line accessing your k490 data from Aqua Modis satellite.
Thank You

Hi Len,

The near real-time (NRT) Kd490 data is included in the MODISA_L2_OC_NRT collection on NASA Earthdata Search. You can search and download granules there. For more efficient data access, I recommend using the Python package earthaccess, which streamlines searching and downloading L2 data. Here's a helpful tutorial that walks through downloading and reading L2 data from Ocean Color using Python:
https://oceancolor.gsfc.nasa.gov/resources/docs/tutorials/notebooks/modis-explore-l2/

Hope this helps,
Guoqing Wang

One question please. After a kd490 scan is completed how long does it take for me to be able access the data?

For the NRT data, they will be available within a couple of hours. You can refer to this webpage for more details: https://www.earthdata.nasa.gov/learn/earth-observation-data-basics/data-latency
