Inquiry about the RGB preview image of L2 data

by dfhooll » Tue Apr 22, 2025 4:25 am America/New_York

Hello. Recently, I found that the website address originally used for the search and preview of L2 data is no longer available. I fully understand the necessity of the integration and update of the data download method on the earthdata website. At present, I'm not very familiar with the new data download process. So I'd like to inquire whether it is still possible to preview the thumbnail of the L2-level RGB image to determine whether it is necessary to download a certain image. Cause if I download all the images of a certain day, it would greatly increase the pressure of data download and storage. Thank you for your support and reply.

I assume you are referring to the deprecated https://oceancolor.gsfc.nasa.gov/cgi/browse.pl utility.
The Earthdata Search tool does provide granule-level browse files for collections where these exist. We are still in the process of generating the browse imagery for many of the collections that were supported by the deprecated browser. So, while they may not exist right now for the mission(s) you are interested in viewing, I can say they will eventually exist. There are a LOT of granules to generate imagery for, so this might take a little while.
Sorry for the (hopefully temporary) inconvenience.

Regards,
Sean

Thank you for your reply. Looking forward to the launch of the new browsing image function.
