GLOBAL FİRE MAP

by falconxtr » Sun Jul 27, 2025 7:16 am America/New_York

Hello. Do the red dots on the global fire map indicate areas with active fires, or do they mean something else? According to this map, does it mean that almost everywhere in Central Africa is burning?

Hello @falconxtr Could you please send us the link of where you are seeing that map? That will help us determine which data it is so we can further answer your question. Thanks -- Danielle

Hello @falconxtr ,

Due to the resolution at that level it looks like all of Central Africa is on fire. If you zoom in you can see that the whole land is not on fire but there are a lot of detected hot spots. See here: https://firms.modaps.eosdis.nasa.gov/map/#d:24hrs;@23.7,-8.6,6.8z

Also see our FAQ question, Are all active fire hotspots vegetation fires?, https://www.earthdata.nasa.gov/data/tools/firms/faq#heading-accordion-124439-6

If you have any other questions the easiest way to get in contact with the FIRMS team is through the feedback module on the FIRMS wesbite. That goes directly to our ticketing system.
