Hello GEDI community,
I’m a researcher at FUNAAB (Nigeria) working on a wood quality modeling project in Omo Forest Reserve (6°42'–7°05'N, 4°12'–4°35'E). I need GEDI Level-2A data (specifically RH95 canopy heights) to contribute 20% to a health index (40% NDVI, 40% EVI, 20% RH95) and validate field data collected from sample plots (25m x 25m) in August 2025. I’m having difficulty identifying and obtaining the correct granules and would appreciate your expertise.
Details: Specific URL: https://search.earthdata.nasa.gov/search (accessed on September 02, 2025, at ~02:30 PM WAT).
Date and Time: September 02, 2025, ~02:30–03:00 PM WAT.
General Research: Wood quality modeling using remote sensing (PlanetScope) and field data to assess forest health and wood properties.
Data Product: GEDI L2A Elevation and Height Metrics (Version 2).
Data Set/Variable: RH95 canopy height metric.
Access Method: Google Chrome (assumed Version 125.0.6422.113 based on current standards).
Operating System: Windows 10 (Version 21H2).
Application: Earthdata Search web interface.
Issue:
I’ve attempted to download specific granules but couldn’t select the correct ones: I’m uncertain which orbits intersect Omo Forest (6°42'–7°05'N, 4°12'–4°35'E). I initially tried granules like O33771, O33773–O33780 (assumed late 2024), but downloads stalled, and I’m unsure of their coverage.
I’d like assistance with: Identifying alternative 2024 or 2023 granules that intersect my study area.
Guidance on using Earthdata Search to filter and select the correct orbits efficiently.
Any recommended tools or settings (e.g., earthaccess, CMR API) to pinpoint and download these granules.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!
Francis

Re: : Assistance Needed to Identify and Download Specific GEDI Level-2A Granules for Omo Forest
Hi Francis,
Sorry for the hassles with locating and downloading specific GEDI granules. The Earthdata search is in the process of reconciling data in the cloud and it presently is causing issues which will be resolved soon.
We also have the Gedi finder .py tool that can help you, please take a look: https://github.com/nasa/GEDI-Data-Resources/tree/main/python/scripts/GEDI_Finder
Please let us know if you have any question.
Thanks,
Brett
