Request for Access to Additional AfriSAR 2015 Georeferenced Raster Datasets

by aravindan_iirs » Sat Aug 23, 2025 12:34 pm America/New_York

Hello,

I am working with the AfriSAR 2015 mission dataset and need access to georeferenced digital terrain models (DTM) and canopy height models (CHM) at 1-meter resolution for the AfriSAR 2015 study sites: Lope, Mondah, and Rabi.

The documentation states these datasets are 'available' upon request from the principal investigator (PI), Dr. Sassan S. Saatchi. However, despite multiple attempts, I have not been able to make contact to obtain the data.

Could anyone please assist me with access to these datasets or direct me to the appropriate contact?

Thank you in advance.

Best regards,
Aravind

Thank you for sharing these AfriSAR LVIS datasets. I have checked them, but they are part of the 2016 AfriSAR campaign and derived from LVIS lidar measurements.

I am specifically looking for digital terrain models (DTM) and canopy height models (CHM) at 1-meter resolution from the 2015 AfriSAR campaign, which covered Lope, Mondah, and Rabi sites. These 1-m georeferenced datasets are described as being available upon request from the principal investigator, Dr. Sassan S. Saatchi, in the Dryad data repository README:
https://datadryad.org/dataset/doi:10.5061/dryad.467hp97

Quote from the README file:
"Georeferenced digital terrain models (DTM) and canopy height models (CHM) at 1-m resolution are available upon request to the study site PIs: Lope, Mondah and Rabi => Sassan S. Saatchi (Sassan.S.Saatchi@jpl.nasa.gov)".

Is there a way to access these AfriSAR 2015 campaign products? Thank you!

Regards,
Aravind

Hi Aravind,

I've sent Dr. Saatchi an email and requested him to respond to your post here at the Earthdata Forum. While in the meantime, have you tried the ESA website (https://earth.esa.int/eogateway/campaigns/afrisar-2015) and see if the data you need is available there? AfriSAR was a collaboration between ESA and NASA. Some AfriSAR data, especially for year 2015, may be available from the ESA data repository.
