SeaDAS 7.4 manual

by jcfischer » Thu Sep 14, 2017 6:34 am America/New_York

Hi, I just downloaded and started to work with SeaDAS 7.4. Is there a comprehensive user manual for this latest version of the program available? Thank you very much!

SeaDAS 7.4 manual

No manual, but many resources, starting with the Help button which has "SeaDAS Help" and also "Video Tutorials and Demos", which should take you to a web pages with links to Youtube videos.  There are also third party Youtube videos, but many of these are for older SeaDAS versions.

The SeaDAS GUI was originally created by ESA as BEAM VISAT.  Although BEAM has been replaced by SNAP, ESA's documentation for BEAM is often useful for the SeaDAS GUI.

SeaDAS is a vastly complex system -- most users focus on the parts that are relevant to their own interests.  The SeaDAS video tutorials cover some of the most widely used tools, but if you don't see what you need then searching for relevant posts on this OC Forum may help.  If not, posting a detailed description of what you are hoping to do usually gets helpful responses.

SeaDAS 7.4 manual

by stevereima » Thu Sep 28, 2017 10:24 am America/New_York

I recently installed SeaDAS 7 and ran into a problem.  When I attempted to use the Color Manager with some MODIS data, I got the following error message "An internal error occurred. Not able to create user interface control for page component 'Color Manager'."

Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions for how to activate the Color Manager without getting this message?

Thank you,

We will need a bit more information to help answer this question.

What OS are you using?
What Java are you using?

I have seen problems like this on Linux when using openJDK.  If that is the case we suggest using the JDK from Oracle.\

Hope that helps.

Is your Color Manager window closed when you open SeaDAS?  In this case the Color Manager does not get initialized prior to you opening a file.  You could try selecting from the menu "View -> Reset to Default Layout" and then close SeaDAS.  When you reopen SeaDAS, the Color Manager will be there and the problem should hopefully be resolved.
