Phytoplankton functional type (PFD) models for Arctic area

by bluesky1987 » Wed Sep 26, 2018 6:49 am America/New_York

Dear all,
I do not know my question is related to this forum or not; but if you answer me, I can be thankful.
I am trying to detect any DMS producers in Arctic area and as I know there are some phytoplankton types that produce DMS (some of them less and some of them more).
So, I need to know which phytoplankton we have in Arctic area and then measure their DMS.
As I heard there are some phytoplankton functional types (PFD) models that scientists distinguish PFDs based on them.
Would you please suggest me some PFDs models for Arctic area?
Cheers,
Marjan

Hi Marjan,

This is a challenging question to answer as there are a number of different PFT algorithms out there. All I can do is recommend you consult the literature. The following paper is probably a good starting point:

Mouw et al. 2017. A Consumer's Guide to Satellite Remote Sensing of Multiple Phytoplankton Groups in the Global Ocean, Frontiers in Marine Science, 4,

Best regards,
Lachlan
