Questions about Algorithms for MODIS chlorophyll products

I would like to know how the chlorophyll a concentration obtained from MODIS chlorophyll products is calculated? OC3 or OC4?
Where can I find relevant instructions?

A good starting point is MODIS Aqua R2018. The netcdf file metadata and OCSSW Processing System source code are very useful for the finer details.
