Expedite CALIPSO 2020 data
On January 29, 2020
The Australian wildfires have significantly modified the aerosol distribution in the Summer Southern Hemisphere since the first of the year. I wonder if it would be possible to expedite the processing of CALIPSO L1 V4-10 and VFM V4-20 products? I am interested in seeing if the phase partitioning between liquid and ice in supercooled clouds is significantly different this summer compared to other summers.

The V4.10 Lidar Level 1 and V4.20 Lidar Level 2 typically takes 8-10 weeks from downlink, and are released in monthly blocks.
These products rely on a MERRA-2 data product that is delivered on a monthly basis. And given the multi-orbit averaging to derive the calibration we also require the adjoining month to account for the first few days of that month. So for instance, we just got December 2019 in mid-January, but we need the first few days of February. So the earliest we could run December 2019 is mid-February. I wouldn’t expect January 2020 until late March.
