Hello,
I would like to ask about the methodology, used in the validation to weight HPLC values at different depth when no other measurements (especially Kd) are provided.
Thank you very much!

Hi Ilaria,

Please refer to the Werdell and Bailey (2005) "NOMAD" manuscript for details of optical weighting approaches, including different options depending on the amount of attenuation information available. Coincident radiometric measurements are best, but clearly not always available. Other methods that can be considered for estimating Kd490 include coincident in situ observations of the absorption and scattering coefficients (Kirk 1984); above-water measurements of normalized water-leaving radiance (Mueller 2000); and the chlorophyll a profile itself (Morel and Maritorena 2001).
