l2gen trouble reading SST ancillary file

I'm getting the following error on two different computers when running l2gen on a MODISA granule

Loading DEM info from /marine-services/ocssw/share/common/ETOPO1_ocssw.nc
-E- /home/seadas/ocssw/src/l2gen/sstref.c : Unable to initialize SST file
/marine-services/ocssw/var/anc/2019/212/N2019212_SST_OIV2AV_24h.nc 218
I've tried deleting and re-downloading the file and the problem persists. Is it perhaps corrupt on the source server? Or did the file format change again?
my l2gen version is "9.3.0-seadas-vxx.xxx.xx.xx (Dec 3 2018 15:37:26)" if that makes a difference.
