Calculation of caron storage using GEDI L4A

by saharsharifi » Tue Dec 10, 2024 11:15 am America/New_York

Hi
I want to calculate aboveground carbon stock.
using GEDI L4A and Landsat 8, I have prepared the AGBD map for my study area. science this map is a biomass map, should I multiply it by 0.5 to calculate carbon stock?

Hi @saharsharifi ,
Thank you for reaching out! The factor of 0.5 is a standard conversion used by the FAO and other organizations to estimate carbon (C) content from total biomass. First, you'll need to convert your GEDI/Landsat AGBD (Above Ground Biomass Density) to total AGB (Above Ground Biomass) by multiplying the AGBD by the area, also described here in in Dubayah et al., https://doi.org/10.1088/1748-9326/ac8694
