IGS GIMs Early 2000s Data Noise

Hello,
I was inspecting IGS GIMs for data anomalies and noticed that early 2000s data often contains high-latitude artifacts or localized noise patterns. From what I’ve observed, this occurs in around 500-1000 maps, but the error is negligible, meaning the VTEC values are not outliers, just small-scale localized noise.
What caught my attention is a wave-like noise pattern that appears on some maps.
Out of curiosity, does anyone know what causes this? Could it be an interpolation artifact due to sparse station coverage, or is it possibly related to some high-latitude polar region dynamics that I’m unaware of? If so, why does it take on a wave-like structure rather than appearing as random noise?
