Trying to find daily surface water data, mainly temperatures and water color, for lakes and waterways in the United States.

The LP DAAC has a few water datasets that provide surface area, elevation, and water storage for lakes as 8-day and monthly data that you might be interested in: https://lpdaac.usgs.gov/product_search/?keyword=Water&temporal_resolution=Monthly&temporal_resolution=Multi-Day&status=Operational&view=cards&sort=title

We also distribute Land Surface Temperature data that has been used in the past to estimate surface temperature of lakes that you might be interested. Some of these datasets are daily: https://lpdaac.usgs.gov/product_search/?keyword=Land+Surface+Temperature+%28LST%29&temporal_resolution=%3C+Daily&temporal_resolution=Daily&temporal_resolution=Multi-Day&status=Operational&view=cards&sort=title

and finally, Landsat, located in the same USGS facility as the LP DAAC, has a Surface Temperature data as well that you might be interested in: https://www.usgs.gov/landsat-missions/landsat-collection-2-surface-temperature that has been used in studies to estimate lake surface temperature.

However, I'll tag our sister DAACs (PO DAAC and OB DAAC) in case they have any datasets that will meet your needs too. Thanks!

PODAAC doesn't have surface temperature data, but you may be interested in the following products that provide other hydrological parameters for inland water bodies:
* from SWOT, river/lake surface extent, height, and discharge estimates: https://podaac.jpl.nasa.gov/swot?discipline=terrestrial%20hydrosphere&tab=datasets-information
* from OPERA, water surface extent/inundation: https://podaac.jpl.nasa.gov/opera?tab=datasets&sections=about%2Bdata
