GCMD Platform Keyword Request for PODAAC (Sentinel-6B)
Posted: Thu Aug 07, 2025 1:49 pm America/New_York
Hello GCMD kw maintainers,
PODAAC requests a new GCMD platform keyword for "Sentinel-6B" that will exist adjacent to "Sentinel-6A" in the kw hierarchy: https://gcmd.earthdata.nasa.gov/KeywordViewer/scheme/all/1f0f5178-9d7a-41ae-8f04-d6262415c30c?gtm_keyword=Sentinel-6A>m_scheme=platforms
The description would change to:
"""
The Sentinel-6 radar altimeter mission is part of the Copernicus Programme, with the objective of providing high-precision measurements of global sea-level in the 2020–2030 time-frame. A secondary objective is to collect high resolution vertical profiles of temperature, using the GNSS Radio-Occultation sounding technique, to assess temperature changes in the troposphere and stratosphere and to support Numerical Weather Prediction. Sentinel-6B, the second of three planned satellites, launches in November 2025.
"""
Alternate labels would be:
"""
Sentinel-6
Sentinel-6B Jason-CS
Sentinel-6B (primary)
"""
Please let me know if I forgot anything, thank you!
