I primi esempi di un ''[[zupano]]'' perpetuo risalgono al [[XII secolo]], ma l'istituzione fiorì tra il [[XV secolo|XV]] e il [[XVIII secolo]]. Sebbene tutte le funzioni amministrative dell'ufficio furono abolite nel [[1870]], il titolo stesso fu preservato fino all'abolizione generale dei titoli nobiliari in [[Ungheria]] nel 1946.
