Messa un attimo da parte la rivalità con l'eroe olimpico, Benoit decide quindi di allearsi a Jericho, con cui vincerà i titoli di coppia battendo i "Two-Man Power Trip", Triple H e Steve Austin. I due riusciranno a difendere le cinture in un bellissimo [[TLC match]] a Smackdown!, salvo poi perderle successivamente contro i [[Dudley Boyz]]. Benoit riesce a rientrare nel giro del titolo WWF detenuto da [[Stone Cold Steve Austin]] e prova a conquistarlo in uno scontro a tre contro appunto Austin e l'ex compagno Jericho a King of the Ring. Non solo non riuscirà a conquistare la cintura, ma questo sarà, per lui, il suo ultimo match da lì a quasi un anno, dato che nel corso dell'incontro subirà un tremendo infortunio al collo.
