Poco dopo che Hamada ha lasciato la posizione di CEO, [[James Gunn (regista)|James Gunn]] e [[Peter Safran]] sono stati rivelati come co-CEO/co-presidenti dello studio e la DC Films è stata ribattezzata "DC Studios". Il duo è stato incaricato di supervisionare la produzione di film, televisione e animazione sotto l'etichetta DC, riportando direttamente a David Zaslav, mentre lavorava anche a fianco ma indipendentemente dai capi di altre divisioni. Gunn sovrintende allo sviluppo creativo dei progetti DC, mentre Safran sovrintende alla produzione. I loro ruoli sono iniziati effettivamente il 1º novembre dello stesso anno.
Nel dicembre dello stesso anno, Gunn e [[Henry Cavill]] annunciarono che Cavill non sarebbe più tornato come [[Superman (DC Extended Universe)|Superman]] in nessun progetto futuro. Gunn ha anche annunciato che stava scrivendo un nuovo film di Superman, basato su una versione più giovane del personaggio. Si diceva anche che [[Ben Affleck]] (che in precedenza interpretava [[Batman (DC Extended Universe)|Bruce Wayne / Batman]]) fosse in trattative per dirigere un nuovo progetto dei DC Studios, ma lo stesso Affleck avrebbe poi affermato che non stava dirigendo alcun film per la DC. Gunn in seguito rivelò che i nuovi film DC avrebbero avuto un'uguale attenzione su personaggi popolari e oscuri, traendo ispirazione dalle serie animate DC ''[[Justice League Unlimited]]'' e ''[[Young Justice (serie animata)|Young Justice]]''.
Gunn e Safran hanno annunciato il primo capitolo del loro universo intitolato ''Gods and Monsters'' il 31 gennaio 2023.
