Lo '''lupo egiziano''' ('''''Canis anthus lupaster'''''), è una sottospecie di [[Canis anthus|lupo africano]] che vive nell'Africa settentrionale, orientale e occidentale. Differisce dal [[Canis anthus anthus|lupo senegalese]] dalla sua corporatura più robusta, la testa più tozza, il pelo più folto, gli arti più lunghi, le orecchie meno appuntite, e la coda più corta. Osservazioni fatte nel [[Santuario nazionale degli uccelli di Djoudj]] indicano che è un animale solitario che vive nelle periferie dei territori del lupo senegalese, dominando l'ultimo negli scontri per le carcasse. The Egyptian wolf had an unresolved taxonomic identity and was formerly known as the '''Egyptian jackal'''. Throughout much of the 20th century, the animal was classed as a subspecies of [[golden jackal]], ''Canis aureus lupaster''.
