Ready Player Two
Ready Player Two è un romanzo di fantascienza del 2020 dell'autore americano Ernest Cline ed è il sequel del suo romanzo di debutto del 2011 Player One.

I piani per un sequel di Ready Player One sono stati annunciati per la prima volta nel 2015, anche se Cline non ha iniziato a scrivere il libro fino alla fine del 2017.
Cline attribuisce ulteriori sviluppi al successo critico e finanziario dell'adattamento cinematografico del primo romanzo.[1] La pubblicazione è avvenuta il 24 novembre 2020.[2]
Storia
Nel 2015, in un'intervista con Den of Geek, lo sceneggiatore Zak Penn, che ha scritto l'adattamento cinematografico di Ready Player One, ha riferito che Ernest Cline stava lavorando a un sequel del romanzo originale.[3][4] Successivamente nel dicembre 2017, Cline ha confermato che stava lavorando a un sequel.[5] Cline ha affermato che il romanzo avrebbe avuto una trama diversa che coinvolgesse tutti i personaggi, mentre esplorava ancora i riferimenti alla cultura pop come il primo libro.[6]
L'autore ha annunciato ulteriori sviluppi in seguito all'adattamento cinematografico del primo romanzo e ha citato il suo successo di critica e finanziario, nonché l'interesse dello studio nell'adattare un sequel come ulteriore motivazione per finire ciò che aveva iniziato.[1] Cline in seguito ha affermato che Steven Spielberg ha contribuito al processo di scrittura del libro.[7] Ready Player Two è stato pubblicato il 24 novembre 2020.[2]
L'Hollywood Reporter ha annunciato che Wil Wheaton avrebbe curato l'audiolibro, come aveva fatto per Ready Player One.[8]
Adattamento cinematografico
Nel novembre del 2017, Cline ha riconosciuto che la rinascita della sua motivazione a scrivere Ready Player Two era dovuta al lavoro sulla sceneggiatura del primo film, così come ai suoi successi sia finanziari che critici. L'autore ha affermato che un sequel potrebbe essere desiderato dallo studio cinematografico.[1]
Entro marzo del 2018 Cline lo ha ribadito, affermando: "penso che ci siano buone probabilità che, se Ready Player One andrà bene, la Warner Bros. vorrà fare un sequel. Non so se Steven Spielberg vorrebbe impegnarsi di nuovo, perché saprebbe in cosa si sta infilando. Ha detto che è il terzo film più difficile che ha realizzato, tra dozzine e dozzine di film ".[9][10]
La co-protagonista Olivia Cooke, è contrattualmente legata al ritorno nei sequel.[11]
Nel dicembre 2020 lo scrittore ha confermato lo sviluppo del sequel, basato sul nuovo romanzo.[12]
