Elkano Project
The first circumnavigation of the globe took place between the years 1519 and 1522. The expedition, that started as a quest to find a navigable way westwards to the Maluku Islands (The Islands of the Spices) finished as the first circumnavigation when the Basque navigator Juan Sebastian Elkano found himself in the need of returning home. The Basque Wikimedians User Group wants to open an international collaboration to explore this topic and write about both the expedition and the cultures, the science and the colonization, the people and the peoples.
The project
The main goal of this project is to enrich different language versions of Wikipedia with knowledge about this first circumnavigation.
