* È consentito a un medico, dedicato a questo scopo, di chiamare un [[Time out (sport)|time out]] medico quando un giocatore, in seguito a un colpo subito, sembra disorientato ma resta sul campo come giocatore. Questo time out non è conteggiato alla squadra, anche se mancano meno di due minuti al termine del tempo. L'unica sostituzione concessa è per il giocatore infortunato e per il giocatore avversario a lui opposto

Due arbitri, invece di uno, misureranno e registreranno la pressione dei palloni prima della gara. Queste regole furono adottate in risposta allo scandalo noto come "[[deflategate]]".
