Il film è stato annunciato nell'ottobre del 2014, con Snyder alla regia e Terrio incaricato di scrivere la sceneggiatura. Le riprese sono cominciate l'11 aprile 2016 e si sono concluse il 1 ottobre. Nel maggio del 2017, Snyder ha abbandonato il progetto in seguito ad un lutto familiare, lasciando a Whedon la gestione della [[post-produzione]] e la regia delle riprese aggiuntive. == Trama ==

Decide di [[Justice League of America|formare una squadra di metaumani]] per difendere la terra da ogni minaccia. Contatta [[Aquaman|Arthur Curry]] che si rifuta e [[Wonder Woman|Diana Prince]], che lo avvisa dell'avvenuto inizio dell'invasione. [[Steppenwolf (personaggio)|Steppenwolf]], [[Nuovi Dei|Nuovo Dio]], giunto sulla Terra con un esercito di [[Parademoni]] per trovare tre [[Scatola Madre| scatole madri]] nascoste sul pianeta, riunirle e scatenare un potere nefasto e inarrestabile, ne ha già rubata una alle amazzoni. Diana contatta il cibernetico [[Cyborg (Victor Stone)|Victor Stone]] che si mostra dubbioso, mentre Batman parla con [[Barry Allen|Flash]] che accetta con entusiasmo di far parte della squadra. Il padre di Cyborg viene però rapito, mentre Steppenwolf ruba la seconda scatola dagli atlantidiani. L'escalation fa si che la squadra si riunisca al completo per salvare il padre di Cyborg, insieme alla altre persone rapite, e recupera la terza scatola con la quale risuscitano Superman, su insistenza di Batman e contro il parere di Wonder Woman che temeva che la situazione sfuggisse dal loro controllo . L'uomo d'acciaio dopo il risveglio è però sconvolto e cerca di uccidere Batman accusandolo di non volere che viva e neanche che muoia, quando viene fermato da Lois Lane. I due volano via insieme e Steppenwolf approfitta della situazione per impadronirsi della terza scatola, La squadra si mette sulle sue ricerche senza Superman che è andato nella sua vecchia casa con Lois, per riflettere . La squadra affronta Steppenwolf ma non riesce a sovrastare il villain finchè non arriva Superman e ribalta la situazione. Sconfitto steppenwolf, Cyborg si riappacifica col padre che lo aiuta a gestire la sua nuova natura di essere ibrido, mente Clark Kent si riconcilia con Bruce Wayne ringraziandolo di avergli ridato la vita e aver salvato la casa della madre sottoposta a procedura esecutiva, comprandosi l'intera banca creditrice. Nella prima scena finale, durante i titoli di coda, Superman e Barry Allen fanno una gara di velocità.
