'''Palazzo di Majo''' è un palazzo di [[Napoli]] situato all'inizio del [[rione Sanità]] nel quartiere [[Stella (Napoli)|Stella]]; l'ingresso è ubicato in discesa Sanità 68, mentre da [[via Santa Teresa degli Scalzi]] è visibile il cortile.

==Cenni storici e descrizione==

Gli Evanescence vennero fondati nel 1995 da [[Amy Lee]] e [[Ben Moody]], riscuotendo un certo successo a livello locale prima di ''[[Fallen (Evanescence)|Fallen]]'' (2003), album che raggiunse la terza posizione della [[Billboard 200|''Billboard'' 200]]. Dall'album vennero estratti i singoli ''[[Bring Me to Life]]'', ''[[Going Under]]'', ''[[My Immortal]]'' ed ''[[Everybody's Fool]]''. Nel 2004 gli Evanescence vinsero due [[Grammy Award]] (come [[Grammy Award al miglior artista esordiente|Miglior Artista Esordiente]] e [[Grammy Award alla miglior interpretazione hard rock|Miglior Interpretazione Hard Rock]]).

L'edificio venne eretto nel [[XVIII secolo]] su volontà del nobile Bartolomeo di Majo. Da fonti cartografiche e documentali si è appurato che l'edificio esisteva già nel [[1718]]<ref name="Ferraro">Italo Ferraro, ''Napoli: atlante della città storica, Volume 5'', CLEAN, 2007</ref> e che nel [[1726]]<ref name="Ferraro"/> [[Ferdinando Sanfelice]] vi lavorasse per eseguirne una ristrutturazione, ricreando una suggestiva abitazione [[Barocco napoletano|barocca]] al di fuori delle mura urbane.

Il Sanfelice realizzò maestosamente il portale con arco mistilineo, su modello delle decorazioni [[Francesco Borromini|borrominiane]]. Al di sopra del portale, un cartiglio reca la volontà del di Majo di realizzare un palazzo al di fuori della città:

Il loro secondo album, ''[[The Open Door]]'' (2006), debuttò al primo posto in cinque classifiche nazionali, inclusa la ''Billboard'' 200, con il primo singolo ''[[Call Me When You're Sober]]''. Dall'album furono estratti anche i singoli ''[[Lithium (Evanescence)|Lithium]]'', ''[[Sweet Sacrifice]] e [[Good Enough (Evanescence)|Good Enough]]''.

Il punto più pregevole è la scala tipicamente barocca: a pianta [[romboidale]], ha una struttura a sbalzo dove sui ballatoi di riposo sono posti gli ingressi ai locali interni (che ripetono lo stesso disegno del portale), su di esse sono posizionati dei busti. La scala è posta sulla sinistra del cortile.

''[[Evanescence (album)|Evanescence]]'', il loro terzo album in studio, fu pubblicato il 7 ottobre 2011 e debuttò al primo posto della ''Billboard'' 200. L'album fu anticipato dal singolo ''[[What You Want]]'', pubblicato il 9 agosto 2011. Il secondo singolo, ''[[My Heart Is Broken]]'', fu trasmesso radiofonicamente dal 31 ottobre 2011. L'ultimo singolo estratto dall'album, ''[[Lost in Paradise (Evanescence)|Lost in Paradise]]'', fu rilasciato il 25 maggio 2012.

[[Bernardo De Dominici]], nelle sue ''Vite dei pittori, scultori ed architetti napoletani'', non destina la minima critica alle scelte adoperate dal Sanfelice nel rifacimento del palazzo, lodando anzi ogni minimo aspetto.

Il quarto album della band, ''[[Synthesis (Evanescence)|Synthesis]]'', fu pubblicato il 10 novembre 2017. Il palazzo fu coinvolto nella creazione del ''corso Napoleone'' nei primi del [[XIX secolo]]. Infatti gli sbancamenti che investirono il cortile poligonale durante il decennio francese resero possibile la creazione di questa nuova arteria cittadina. Per permettere che questa scorresse in maniera rettilinea, il cortile venne tagliato, perdendo l'aspetto chiuso e assumendo una forma emiciclica. Inoltre la nuova strada fu realizzata ad una quota superiore rispetto a quella di calpestio del palazzo.
