:Within a few days i'll complete the roll-out of this way of working in the Russian Wikipedia. If there are no comments here, i'll be bold and start rewriting the main page of this project in accordance with [[Wikipedia:WikiProject Interlanguage Links/Ideas from the Hebrew Wikipedia]].

From Greek Wikipedia: Use a list of articles without interwikis and ... start finding interwikis. Then put interwiki in the local and the english wikipedia. Make an interwiki project to make it known. Support it with feedback, awards, welcome to new members. --[[User:FocalPoint|FocalPoint]] ([[User talk:FocalPoint|talk]]) 20:16, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
==Wrong interwiki links in many disambiguation pages==
''Note: Already posted in [[Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Disambiguation]].''
Many interwiki links in disambiguation pages are bogus. Here is the problem:<br/>
*Let's say that word '''W1''' has meanings '''m1''', '''m2''' and '''m3''' in language '''L1'''.
**Then we create a disambiguation page <nowiki>[[L1:W1]], with links to articles [[L1:W1 (m1)]], [[L1:W1 (m2)]], and [[L1:W1 (m3)]].</nowiki>
*Let's say that word '''W2''' has meanings '''m1''', '''m4''' and '''m5''' in language '''L2'''.
**Then we create a disambiguation page <nowiki>[[L2:W2]], with links to articles [[L2:W2 (m1)]], [[L2:W2 (m4)]], and [[L2:W2 (m5)]].</nowiki>.
*Let's say that word '''W3''' has meanings '''m2''' and '''m6''' in language '''L3'''.
**Then we create a disambiguation page <nowiki>[[L3:W3]], with links to articles [[L3:W3 (m2)]], and [[L3:W3 (m6)]].</nowiki>
Clearly, <nowiki>[[L2:W2]] has nothing in common with [[L3:W3]] (not the same word, not the same meanings). So, there should be no interwiki links between [[L2:W2]] and [[L3:W3]]</nowiki>. The problem is that it happens. Why?<br />It happens because somebody linked <nowiki>[[L1:W1]] to [[L2:W2]]</nowiki> because of the shared '''m1''' meaning, then somebody else linked <nowiki>[[L3:W3]] to [[L1:W1]]</nowiki> because of the shared '''m2''' meaning. Then robots linked everything together.
The root of the problem is that interwiki between disambiguation pages should not be based on meanings (actually one meaning among several in one language), but on the word itself. A disambiguation page is about a word.
The disambiguation page <nowiki>[[L1:W1]]</nowiki> should only have interwiki links to <nowiki>[[Ln:W1]]</nowiki> disambiguation pages in other languages (they are disambiguation pages for the '''W1''' word). The disambiguation page <nowiki>[[L2:W2]]</nowiki> should only have interwiki links to <nowiki>[[Ln:W2]]</nowiki> disambiguation pages in other languages (they are disambiguation pages for the '''W2''' word)... == Interwiki conflicts ==
VolkovBot maintains a monthly updated [[:ru:User:VolkovBot/conflicts|list of interwiki conflicts]] encountered in different language wikipedias. It may be helpful for those who are interested in working with interwiki links. --[[User:Volkov|Volkov]] [[:ru:User talk:Volkov|(?!)]] 13:24, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
==Links to "sort of" related articles==
I watch a English-language scandal article that editors have cheerfully linked to a worse scandal article in two other languages. The scandal has a different title, a different scope. So instead of "actress X flirtation with Y" we have "actresses X and Z and a menage a trois with W." Not quite the same thing at all! (BTW I don't like scandal articles and would like to delete it along with other editors. We have failed).
But are we required to accept an almost deliberate mistranslation in another language? It seems to me that they can a) translate that article into English and link it. From our POV, they can translate OUR English language article into another language and merge similarities or whatever. But where does it specify that there has to be some correlation between two articles that are '''supposed''' to be "clones"? :[[Help:Interlanguage links]] says very clearly: "Interlanguage links are links from any page (most notably articles) in one Wikipedia language to the same subject in another Wikipedia language."
:There must not be an interlanguage link between articles which deal with different affairs. --[[User:Amire80|Amir E. Aharoni]] ([[User talk:Amire80|talk]]) 21:04, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
== [[:fr:Projet:Interwikification#Sous-pages de travail]] ==
Hello, I am coming from French wikipedia. I created a board with interlanguage lists French <-> English. Some French articles don't have any interlanguage link, whereas some English articles have the same title. By 70%, they match. If you want helping to contribute to link Englich articles to French is on this page [[:fr:Projet:Interwikification#Sous-pages de travail]]. Maybe we can do the reverse operation. English articles without interlanguage links which have the same title on French wikipedia. If some people are interested, please leave me a message. --[[User:Sisyph|Sisyph]] ([[User talk:Sisyph|talk]]) 22:57, 1 April 2009 (UTC)
==Bad target==
I'm working for a while now on the interlanguage links to pages that do not exist (also know as [[Wikipedia:WikiProject_Interlanguage_Links/bad_target|bad target]]). Two types of items regularly show up, which aren't really bad targets. First, when a interwiki link written with a small letter it will refer to the correct interwiki page. I'm not sure if I need to re-capitalize such a link. Second, a interlanguage link to a section on a foreign wiki is seen as a bad target as well. These will some up again in a next batch, if the script isn't changed. [[User:Drbreznjev|Dr. Breznjev]] ([[User talk:Drbreznjev|talk]]) 09:43, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
:Hello, I'm not sure to well understand, for example, if French page doesn't exist, we look for a good link, anyway we delete the line. Same thing for English pages which don't exist. If interlanguage link is correct, we strike the line (e.g. [[:en:Will McCormack]] and [[:fr:Will McCormack]]). That's correct? --[[User:Sisyph|Sisyph]] ([[User talk:Sisyph|talk]]) 14:22, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
The [[Wikipedia:WikiProject_Interlanguage_Links/bad_target|bad target]]-section lists those English pages with links to an another language (currently only [[Wikipedia:WikiProject_Interlanguage_Links/bad_target/en/fr|French]]) where that specific page doesn't exist. For example, the English page [[Foxi Kethevoama]] interwikied to [[:fr:Foxi Kethevoama]], a page that doesn't exist. Therefore, such an interwikilink should be removed. However, the list also gives those items that have in essence correct interwikilinks, but have other issues.
The first one is an interwikilink starting with a small letter. For example, [[Harrespil]] interwikied to [[:fr:harrespil]]. The link interwikies to the correct page, but it is not in the correct format. Currently, I capitalize such a link, but I don't know if that is needed or not.
The second one is an interwikilink to a section in a page on the other language. For example, [[Bad_faith_(existentialism)]] interwikies to [[:fr:Existentialisme#La_mauvaise_foi]]. Because it discusses the same issues, these entries seem correct. Therefore, I do not change them. However, when a new dump should be analyzed with the same script, these entries will show up again. == Articles w/more than one Interlanguage link for the same language ==
Is it acceptable for an article to have more than one Interlanguage link for the same language. [[Mark I tank]] has multiple links for several languages (e.g. 3 for German, 5 for Dutch). In this example, it seems to be because the English article covers the Mark I and several other related tanks, whereas the other language Wikis have separate articles for the related ones.
This is only an example: I've seen other articles with multiple links to the same other-language Wiki for other reasons, or even reasons I couldn't figure out. Is that acceptable at all, for any reason? --[[User:Auntof6|Auntof6]] ([[User talk:Auntof6|talk]]) 10:32, 11 June 2009 (UTC)
== Articles with no interwiki links in Wikimedia projects ==
I guess you may be interested in my tool: http://toolserver.org/~holek/stats/no-interwiki.php. It can show up to 1000 articles with no interwiki links. It can search within one category and sort them as you wish. Hope it'll come handy. {{mono|:)}} [[User:Holek|Hołek]] [[User talk:Holek|҉]] 22:21, 19 August 2009 (UTC)
== Comment on the WikiProject X proposal ==
Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please '''[[meta:Grants:IEG/WikiProject X|review the proposal here]]''' and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my [[User talk:Harej|talk page]]. Thank you for your time! <small>(Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.)</small> [[User:Harej|Harej]] ([[User talk:Harej|talk]]) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

== WikiProject X is live! ==
[[File:WikiProject X icon.svg|100px|right|link=Wikipedia:WikiProject X]]
Hello everyone!
You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that '''[[Wikipedia:WikiProject X|WikiProject X]]''' is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, [[Wikipedia:WikiProject X|check us out]]! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!
'''Note:''' To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to [[Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter]]. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

== Interlanguage link template for user pages ==
I'm looking to have links to things like my userspace and talk page, watchlist and mainpage at several interlanguage wikipedia projects, as well as commons, meta, wikivoyage, etc. Does anyone know of a template that has this kind of functionality already prepackaged, or do I need to get programming?
