Fire Emblem is a popular strategy/role-playing video game franchise developed by Intelligent Systems Co., Ltd. (specifically Shouzou Kaga), the makers of Advance Wars, and published by Nintendo Co., Ltd.. The Fire Emblem games are known to be the first of their genre, the strategic role-playing game, with a very strong emphasis on western forms of medieval folklore.
Personal background
The series currently spans ten games, and has graced the Famicom, Super Famicom, Game Boy Advance, GameCube and Wii. The most recent title in the series was first released in Japan on February 22, 2007. A North American release is expected to follow at an undisclosed date in 2007.

International release
Schwarzenegger was born in Thal, Austria (four miles from Graz) to a Gendarmerie-Kommandant policeman, Gustav Schwarzenegger (1907-1972) and Aurelia Jadrny (1922-1998). He moved to the US in 1968 and became a US citizen in 1983. Meanwhile, he earned a B.A. from the University of Wisconsin, Superior where he graduated with a major in international marketing of fitness and business administration in 1979. The football stadium in Graz was renamed Arnold Schwarzenegger Stadium in 1997.
Since its inception in 1990, the Fire Emblem series was formerly confined to Japan. In 2001, Nintendo released Super Smash Bros. Melee, a fighting game starring characters from games produced throughout the company's history. The Japanese release of the game contained two characters from the Fire Emblem series; Marth, the original protagonist in the series, starred in Fire Emblem: Ankoku no Ryū to Hikari no Tsurugi, and Fire Emblem: Monshō no Nazo, and Roy starred in the then-unreleased sixth game, Fire Emblem: Fūin no Tsurugi. According to Nintendo's official Japanese website, Marth was put in Super Smash Bros. Melee upon the request of Japanese gamers. Marth's design and playability earned him extra attention while the game underwent debug testing in North America, and it was by the decision of Nintendo of America that he was included in the North American version. Roy had been included in Japan to promote the upcoming release of Fūin no Tsurugi, and was likewise included in the North American version. It was due in part to Marth and Roy's popularity from their appearance in SSBM that Nintendo eventually decided to localize and market Fire Emblem games for North American and European release.

Fire Emblem: Rekka no Ken, the seventh title in the series, became the first to see an international release in 2003. Released outside of Japan simply as Fire Emblem, the game was designed specifically with newcomers to the series in mind, and the first ten chapters were structured in a manner that eased newcomers into the gameplay. All Fire Emblem titles produced since have also seen international release.
In 1971 Schwarzenegger's brother Meinhard was killed in an automobile accident.

Gameplay
In 1986, Schwarzenegger married noted TV journalist Maria Shriver, niece of late President Kennedy. The couple have 4 children: daughters Katherine and Christina and sons Patrick and Christopher.
Basics
Fire Emblem is a series of turn-based strategy games that involve moving units through a map grid in order to defeat the opposition and eventually complete a mission objective, such as seizing a base, surviving for a number of turns, or defeating a boss. The combat system bases itself on a rock-paper-scissors method of fighting, as each weapon type has both an advantage and a disadvantage against other types. From Fire Emblem: Seisen no Keifu to the most recent game Fire Emblem: Akatsuki no Megami, the weapon triangle has been lance beats sword, sword beats axe, and axe beats lance. Bows are unaffected by the triangle and can do higher amounts of damage against flying units, but this is offset by the bow-wielder's inability to counter-attack direct melee strikes.

A similar triangle for magic, that varies from game to game, has also existed. The basic triangles of magic are light beats dark, dark beats anima, and anima beats light. In other games, fire beats wind, wind beats thunder and thunder beats fire. Magic is also unique in that magical attacks can be used from either a distance or in melee range.
In April 1997 he underwent an operation to correct a congenital heart valve defect.

Units and relationships
Bodybuilding career
Unlike Advance Wars and other tactical RPGs such as Final Fantasy Tactics, player-generated units are absent. Instead, Fire Emblem utilizes a distinct cast of characters, each belonging to one of many character classes. Unlike most strategy games, each unit has a personality and past of its own. Money is used to buy better weapons and various items, and using units in battle will allow them to gain experience points; a character's level will increase upon gaining one hundred experience points. Leveling party members up can be a challenge, as many newly recruited units arrive with inferior levels and statistics, but because the amount of experience earned from defeating an enemy is determined by the level discrepancy between the battling units, a characters at lower levels earn more experience than more experienced characters when defeating enemies of comparable level.

Depending on the mechanics of the particular game, characters may change classes upon reaching a certain level, or through the use of a special item that will force a unit's promotion. Characters that change class receive a one-time statistics upgrade that is higher than the average leveling upgrade and additional abilities that are standards of the higher-tier classes. For instance, a cavalier in Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance will change classes automatically after earning enough experience to advance to level 21, becoming a level 1 paladin, will become capable of moving greaters distances in a single turn, and will become able to wield two kinds of weapons.
Schwarzenegger first gained fame as a prominent bodybuilder. His well-developed physique revolutionized the sport, earned him the moniker "The Austrian Oak" and won him the titles of Junior Mr. Europe, Mr. World, Mr. Universe (five times) and Mr. Olympia (seven times). He is considered one of the most important figures in the history of bodybuilding, and his legacy in the sport is commemorated in the Arnold Classic annual bodybuilding competition.

Typically, the size of the player's character roster is very small at the beginning of each game, but as progress is made, other units may join the player's party through story events or through actions taken. The latter games in the series typically contain playable rosters between thirty and fifty characters deep.
Acting career
Romance and friendship are prevalent themes throughout the Fire Emblem series. Starting from the sixth game, Fuuin no Tsurugi, this characteristic has been further emphasized in the gameplay itself through the use of support conversations. In the GBA Fire Emblem titles, these conversations could be triggered by having specific pairs of characters end their turns standing next to each other. After a specific number of turns have accumulated, the player is given the option to view a support conversation between the two characters. Path of Radiance simplified the approach by requiring characters to be in a certain number of battles together and not necessarily adjacent to one another. Each time a pair of characters engage in a support conversation, their affinity towards each other will increase, giving them statistical bonuses that activate any time the characters are next to each other on the battlefield. If two characters with a mutual romantic attraction, strong friendship, or other form of mutual connection engage in three Supports throughout the game, the result will often affect the game's ending. Depending on the characters involved, such results could include marriage, a deepening of friendship, or a continued pursuit of their continuing relationship.
Schwarzenegger's uniquely muscular appearance earned him several movie roles. His first credited film appearance was in Hercules in New York (1970). Under the name Arnold Strong, Schwarzenegger played the title character who travels to New York and befriends a mild-mannered man. His accent in the film was so thick that his lines were dubbed. Schwarzenegger came to the attention of more people in the documentary Pumping Iron (1977).

Death
Schwarzenegger's breakthrough film was Conan the Barbarian (1982), cemented by Conan the Destroyer (1984). He is perhaps most known for his role in James Cameron's The Terminator (1984) where his deadpan acting style actually helped the film. Schwarzenegger's acting ability (described by one critic as having an emotional range that "stretches from A almost to B") has long been the butt of many jokes; he retains a strong Austrian accent in his speech even in roles which do not call for such an accent. However, few of the fans of his work seem to care. He also made a mark with injecting his films with a droll sense of humor, setting him apart from the more serious action heroes such as those played by Sylvester Stallone. (On a side note, in his film The Last Action Hero a boy who has crossed over from the real world into the movie he is playing in is trying to convince him that he is in a movie, but in visiting a video store, there is a poster of the movie The Terminator showing its star, who in that movie is Sylvester Stallone.)
Fire Emblem characters that run out of hit points and die cannot be brought back to life in game. This also affects recruitable NPC and enemy units. If a player wishes to continue using a character or recruit a unit that has been killed, then the chapter must be restarted from the beginning. In addition, a "Game Over" occurs whenever one of the main characters (Lords) falls, or in other situations depending on a mission's requirements. Only under special circumstances, such as being significantly related to the story, will characters who have fallen in battle not actually die. In extremely rare situations, such as in Fire Emblem: Seisen no Keifu, Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones, and Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, characters that fall in battle can become playable at a later point in the game. Exceptions aside, there is normally no method for restoring a fallen character's life, such as a particular spell or scroll. When there is one, it rarely occurs and breaks with only one use.

Fire Emblem characters
Following his arrival as a Hollywood superstar, he made a number of commercially successful films: Commando (1985), Raw Deal (1986), The Running Man (1987), and Red Heat (1988). In Predator (1987), another commercially successful film, Scwarzenegger led a cast which included future Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura and future Kentucky Gubernatorial Candidate Sonny Landham. Twins, (1988) a comedy with Danny DeVito, was a change of pace. Total Recall (1990) got Schwarzenegger $10m and 15% of the gross, and hid a widely praised, thought-provoking science-fiction script behind his usual violent action. Kindergarten Cop (1990) was another comedy.

Naming of the series
Schwarzenegger arguably hit his high-water mark with Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991). After the box-office failure of The Last Action Hero, (1993) Schwarzenegger's career never again achieved quite the same prominence. True Lies (1994) was a sendup of spy films. It was followed by Eraser (1996), End of Days (1999), The 6th Day (2000) and Collateral Damage (2002). He starred in Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003) and was slated to star in a possible True Lies 2, but his duties as California governor have likely put his movie career on hold until at least 2007.
The "Fire Emblem" to which the games' title refers is a plot device or item that has taken multiple forms throughout the series, changing with the setting. The original Fire Emblem was a shield which allowed the wielder, Marth, to use the Falchion sword. In the remake of the original game in Monshō no Nazo, the Fire Emblem can be used by Marth to open chests and can be upgraded with five orbs to turn it into the Shield of Seals in Book two. In Rekka no Ken and Fūin no Tsurugi, the Fire Emblem is a gemstone required for a ceremony to recognize the heir to the throne of Bern. It is also used to unlock the Sword of Seals. In The Sacred Stones, the Fire Emblem is the Sacred Stone of Grado, which holds the Demon King's spirit, but it is split in two (the other half forms the Dark Stone), and the Fire Emblem is crushed. In Path of Radiance, it was another name for Lehran's Medallion, an artifact containing the imprisoned spirit of an evil god. In Seisen no Keifu, it does not appear, but it is mentioned as the family crest of the Velthomer house by the person succeeding it. But, it was also hinted to be one of the twelve holy weapons in the game.

Music
In an interview on October 29, 2002, with MSNBC's Chris Matthews at Chapman University, Schwarzenegger explained why he is a Republican:
The musical scores for Fire Emblem have been composed by Yuka Tsujiyoko for most of the series' history. Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones was scored by Saki Haruyama, Yoshihiko Kitamura, and Yoshito Hirano, under Tsujiyoko's supervision. The first eight games in the series all featured soundtracks composed entirely of instrumental music. However, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance broke from this trend with the end credit theme "Life Returns", a lyrical piece sung in the language of the fictional heron laguz tribe.

There are also recurring tracks in the Fire Emblem series. The most frequently used is the "Fire Emblem Main Theme" which is played at some point during each game. Its use is particularly varied, as it is sometimes used as the title screen theme, while in Path of Radiance, the song isn't heard until the very end of the game, when each character's performance is ranked. Another track that is frequently remixed is a character recruitment theme entitled "Together We Ride," although it is not used in every game. Since Fire Emblem: Seisen no Keifu, battle themes of previous Fire Emblem games have been remixed as arena battle themes. Similar rearranging appears in other circumstances, as well; for example, the musical score for the trial maps in Path of Radiance was originally the music score for Chapter 10 of Seisen no Keifu.
<blockquote>
"Well, I think because a lot of people don't know why I'm a Republican, I came first of all from a socialistic country which is Austria and when I came over here in 1968 with the presidential elections coming up in November, I came over in October, I heard a lot of the press conferences from both of the candidates Humphrey and Nixon, and Humphrey was talking about more government is the solution, protectionism, and everything he said about government involvement sounded to me more like Austrian socialism.
<p>
"Then when heard Nixon talk about it, he said open up the borders, the consumers should be represented there ultimately and strengthen the military and get the government off our backs. I said to myself, what is this guy's party affiliation? I didn't know anything at that point. So I asked my friend, what is Nixon? He's a Republican. And I said, I am a Republican. That's how I became a Republican."
</blockquote>

Other media
It had been known since the 1990s that Schwarzenegger was interested in public office (a belief jokingly referenced in a Sylvester Stallone film, Demolition Man, where a future America passed a constitutional amendment to allow foreign-born Americans, and thus Schwarzenegger, to become President).

*In 1995, an anime OVA (co-produced with KSS) was produced and released; it was closely based on the first three acts of the very first game in the series or more specifically, the remake contained in Monshō no Nazo. See also Fire Emblem (anime).
Regarding a run for public office, in 1999, he told Talk magazine that "I think about it many times." He said, "The possibility is there because I feel it inside. I feel there are a lot of people standing still and not doing enough. And there's a vacuum." Some analysts suspected that it was his unofficial announcement to run in the 2002 California gubernatorial election. Ultimately, he supported his friend and fellow moderate Republican, Richard Riordan, former mayor of Los Angeles, California.

*Fire Emblem The Best Volume One was a video game music sound-track released on April 25, 1997 by Nintendo corporation (serial# PSCN-5058~9).
Venturing into politics
Trivia
Schwarzenegger was appointed Chairman of the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports in the administration of George H. W. Bush from 1990 to 1993. During that time, Schwarzenegger traveled across the U.S. promoting physical fitness to kids. He later served as Chairman for the California Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports under Governor Pete Wilson.
*A title listed as "AKANEIA" in the debug mode of Super Smash Bros. Melee suggests that an arena based upon Fire Emblem was under development, but no real map data exists and players often end up fighting against Marth and Roy in Hyrule Temple. If Marth is unlocked and all human players hold either L or R while selecting Hyrule Temple, a remixed version of Fire Emblem's main theme and the recruiting theme will play instead of its original music. The song may also play randomly if Marth is unlocked.

*In another Intelligent Systems game, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, there is a minor character in Petalburg that raves about his favorite video games when spoken to. The first game he talks about is Fire Emblem.
Schwarzenegger scored his first real political success on November 5, 2002 when Californians approved his personally crafted and sponsored Proposition 49, the "After School Education and Safety Program Act of 2002", an initiative to make state grants available for after school programs.

*Fire Emblem: Monshou no Nazo is the only Fire Emblem game to appear in Famitsu's 2006 Top one hundred games list. Famitsu readers voted it the number sixty-eighth game of all time. It was also among the first titles released as a Virtual Console title at the launch of the Japanese region Wii Shop Channel.
2003 California recall
*The Nintendo DS game Daigasso! Band-Brothers features the Fire Emblem theme as a song.
In the 2003 California recall, Schwarzenegger was widely rumored to be considering a run at becoming Governor of California. In the July 2003 issue of Esquire magazine, he said, "Yes, I would love to be governor of California ... If the state needs me, and if there's no one I think is better, then I will run." When a recall campaign against Democratic governor Gray Davis qualified for the ballot on July 24, Schwarzenegger left many wondering whether he would jump into the contest. Schwarzenegger was just wrapping up a promotional tour for Terminator 3 and said he would announce his decision on whether to run on August 6 on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

*Fire Emblem characters are usually right-handed. One exception is that Sothe from Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and Fire Emblem: The Goddess of Dawn is left-handed, according to the official artwork.

In the days and even hours leading up to the show's taping, political experts and insiders concluded that Schwarzenegger was leaning against running in California's October 7 recall election. Even his closest advisors said he was probably not going to run. Rumors leading up to the announcement said that his wife, Maria Shriver, a Kennedy family Democrat, was against his running, and he wanted her approval in order to run. When announcing his candidacy on the Tonight Show, he joked, "It's the most difficult [decision] I've made in my entire life, except the one I made in 1978 when I decided to get a bikini wax." Ultimately, Shriver said she would support Schwarzenegger no matter what he chose, so he decided to run. Schwarzenegger told Leno, "The politicians are fiddling, fumbling and failing. The man that is failing the people more than anyone is Gray Davis. He is failing them terribly, and this is why he needs to be recalled and this is why I am going to run for governor."

*A red-headed girl named Anna makes appearances in numerous games in the series. Although she isn't an actual member of any Fire Emblem cast, she generally appears in games when the player is about to suspend game data or serves as the tutorial narratress.
As a candidate in the recall election, Schwarzenegger had the most name recognition in a crowded field of candidates, but he had never held public office and his political views were unknown to most Californians. His candidacy was immediate national and international news, with media outlets dubbing him the "Governator" (referring to The Terminator movies, see above) and "The Running Man" (the name of another of his movies), and calling the recall election "Total Recall" (ditto) and "Terminator 4: Rise of the Candidate" (referring to his movie Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines). Schwarzenegger was quick to use his well-known one-liners, promising to "pump up Sacramento" (the state capital) and tell Gray Davis "hasta la vista." At the end of his first press conference, he said "I'll be back." Schwarzenegger looked to follow in the footsteps of former California governor and one-time movie star Ronald Reagan. However, due to his status as a naturalized citizen he would not be eligible to seek the Presidency. Among his campaign team were Rob Lowe, Warren Buffett, and George Shultz.

Allegations of sexual misconduct had following Schwarzenegger throughout his film career and were furthered by interviews the actor himself gave with magazines such as Oui in which he talked about smoking marijuana and participating in an orgy. Within the last five days before the election, reports appeared in the Los Angeles Times based on allegations of sexual misconduct from several individual women, sixteen of whom eventually came forward with similar stories. Chronologically, they ranged from Elaine Stockton, who claimed that Schwarzenegger groped her breast at a Gold's Gym in 1975 (she was 19 at the time), to a 51-year-old woman who said that he pinned her to his chest and spanked her shortly after she met him in connection with production of his film, "The Sixth Day," in 2000. Schwarzenegger admitted that he has "behaved badly sometimes" and apologized, but also stated that "a lot of (what) you see in the stories is not true". This came after an interview from the same era surfaced in which Schwarzenegger discussed attending sexual orgies and indulging in drugs like cocaine. Opponents to Schwarzenegger have pegged him as a misogynistic man with a history of mistreating women, and who sends mixed messages by participating in violent films while preaching peace and non-violence. Supporters of Schwarzenegger argued that the allegations of mistreatment to women have no merit and were only a last-minute, desperate attempt to smear his reputation. Allegations, based on selective quotation, were also made that he at one time admired Adolf Hitler and had praised him as a great propagandist. However the full text of the statement from which the quotation was taken significantly reduces the credibility of the allegations. Although Schwarzenegger's father was in fact a member of the Nazi party, opponents are slow to point out that Schwarzenegger has been a strong supporter of various Jewish groups, and has denounced the principles of the fascist German regime, saying "I have always despised everything that Hitler stands for."

These allegations did not end up hurting Schwarzenegger's campaign. On October 7, 2003, the 2003 California recall resulted in Governor Gray Davis being recalled with 55.4% of the Yes vote. Schwarzenegger was elected Governor of California on the second ballot with 48.6% of the vote. He was sworn into office on November 17, 2003.

Governorship
Schwarzenegger's inauguration was opened by Vanessa Williams, his co-star from Eraser, with the singing of the National Anthem. His children joined others in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, then Maria Shriver spoke and held the Bible while Schwarzenegger was sworn into the office of Governor. He then spoke a few words: "Today is a new day in California. I did not seek this office to do things the way they've always been done. What I care about is restoring your confidence in your government... This election was not about replacing one man. It was not replacing one party. It was about changing the entire political climate of our state."

In his first few hours in office Schwarzenegger fulfilled his campaign promise to repeal a 200% increase in vehicle license fees undertaken by Gov. Davis's administration. On his first full day in office, Schwarzenegger proposed a three point plan to fix the budget woes. First, Schwarzenegger proposed floating $15 billion in bonds. Second, he urged voters to pass a constitutional amendment to limit state spending. Third, he sought an overhaul of workers' compensation. Schwarzenegger also called the state legislature into a special session and said that spending cuts would also be necessary. He initiated the cuts by agreeing to serve as governor with no salary, a savings of $175,000. To fulfill the first two points, he urged California voters to pass Proposition 57 and Proposition 58 in the March 2, 2004 election, which would sell $15 billion in bonds and mandate balanced budgets, respectively.

However, he also reneged on his campaign pledges to not take money from special interests and to answer accusations that he groped or sexually harassed women. He also faced a lawsuit from Rhonda Miller, a stuntwoman who said she had been manhandled on the set of "Terminator 2." Miller sued for libel, based on an email that the actor's campaign had sent to reporters, attempting to discredit Miller by falsely insinuating that she had a rap sheet for theft, forgery, drugs and prostitution.

As the governor of California he did not give amnesty to Kevin Cooper who asked him for clemency in his Death penalty.
