Why are there two code points for šŠ, žŽ in Latin-1 Supplement and Latin Extended-A? (or the font I use is buggy...)
Kazkaskazkasako (talk) 08:53, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
:The font uses Windows-1252 (or other windows font) which has characters in 0x80-0x9F. E.g. šŠžŽœŒ€‰–—. Unicode does not have printable values in 0x80-0x9F. Bug or feature depends on who you ask. Backwards compatibility? --BIL (talk) 21:00, 16 March 2020 (UTC)
Scope of article
At present the article indiscriminately includes characters such as those in the Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols and Enclosed Alphanumerics blocks that do not belong to the Latin script according the script classification used in the Unicode Standard, and conversely excludes some characters that are classified as Latin script (such as Number Forms). As the article is specifically related to the encoding of Latin script characters in the Unicode Standard I believe that the criteria for inclusion in this article should be whether or not a character has the Unicode script property of "Latin". I have therefore amended the article to only include those characters that have the "Latin" script property in Unicode version 7.0. == Sorting ==
How is the “letters by shape” list sorted? 1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk) 16:28, 16 March 2020 (UTC)
:Who knows? It is all original research. As this article is explicitly about characters that are defined as Latin script in the Unicode Standard, and the list of letters by shape comprises Unicode characters with various Unicode script values, the tables are not appropriate for inclusion in this article, so I have moved them to List of Latin letters by shape. :: <s>BabelStone Maybe it should be integrated into List of Latin letters as a separate section? 1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk) 21:09, 16 March 2020 (UTC)</s>
:: Actually, the table listed explicitly Latin letters in Unicode by shape; as you can see from the number of letters in the mentioned List of Latin letters, it would be very different if it was listing “all” Latin letters. On the other hand, I'm not quite sure if such a list is needed. We already have a list of Latin letters by shap,e regardless if they are in Unicode or not, and a list of Unicode letters by codepoint. What do you think? 1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk) 21:14, 16 March 2020 (UTC)
:::In my opinion the list of letters by shape is not really suitable for Wikipedia, and I would have deleted them if not added by a very experienced editor. BabelStone (talk) 21:58, 16 March 2020 (UTC)
Please put G with tilde character URGENTLY in Unicode!
Please put G with tilde character URGENTLY in Unicode! It is of great importance for obvious reasons! --Jaques O. Carvalho ☜ 14:08, 30 June 2023 (UTC)
:You can submit a character proposal to Unicode but it's unlikely to be accepted because G with tilde is already supported, just not as a precomposed character. The Unicode page on proposals notes Search for "precomposed" at Unicode's "Archive of Notices of Non-Approval for various declined proposals "rejected by the UTC as a precomposed letter already represented by the sequence ...". I have no doubt a request for a precomposed G WITH TILDE will meet the same fate. DRMcCreedy (talk) 15:10, 30 June 2023 (UTC)
