The [[WP:DraftsDRAFTS|Draft namespace]] (draftspace) is not a "free" drafting space. Though [[WP:DELETE|deletion]] procedures in the Draft namespacedraftspace and [[WP:MAINSPACE|mainspace]] differ, [[WP:DRAFT|drafts]] often face deletion just as live [[WP:ARTICLE|articles]] do. Drafts in the Draft namespacedraftspace are commonly deleted at [[WP:MFD|Miscellany for Deletion]] (MfD) and [[WP:CSD|speedy deleted]] per [[WP:G13|G13]] for any number of reasons, including:

* they have not been edited for 6 months (see [[WP:G13|G13]])

* they do not demonstrate plausible notability

* they duplicate a existing article, even if they are intended for drafting improvements to that article

* they have been declined at [[WP:AFC|Articles for Creation]] too many times

* they duplicate aan existing article, even if they are intended for drafting improvements to that article

* they do not demonstrate plausible [[WP:N|notability]]

* they appear to be "hopeless"

Since the Draft namespacedraftspace is not a "free" drafting space, all editors—and especially newbies who do not understand how to avoid draft deletion—should use their [[WP:User pagesUSERSPACE|userspace]] for "free" drafting instead. These [[WP:Userspace draftUD|userspace drafts]] should ''not'' be tagged with {{tl|Userspaceuserspace draft}} (or [[Template:Userspace Disclaimers|similar templates]]), nor should they be submitted to [[WP:AFC|Articles for Creation]] (AfC), as this adds no benefit and makes it more likely that the draft will bedraw targetedattention and be listed at MfD[[WP:MFD|Miscellany for Deletion]] or, in the latter case, deleted per G13 for the same reasons listed above. Users currently working on pages in the draftspace should consider [[WP:USERFICATION|moving them to userspace]] if they wish to have a "free" drafting space. [[WP:G13|G13]] does not apply to non-AfC userspace drafts, though [[WP:STALEDRAFT|STALEDRAFT]] may be invoked upon prolonged user inactivity. Note that while userspace is a good "free" drafting area, it is not okay for user pages to contain work that is [[WP:NOTWEBHOST|unrelated to the purpose of Wikipedia]].

The use of the Draft namespace, Articles for Creation, and/or the {{tl|Userspace draft}} template should be reserved for cases where community feedback on the draft is desired, with the understanding that this feedback may include deletion if the draft meets any of the criteria listed above. Users currently working on pages in the Draft namespace should consider [[WP:USERFICATION|moving them to userspace]] if they wish to have a "free" drafting space.

Completed drafts can be unilaterally [[WP:MOVE|moved]] to the mainspace (turned into articles) without going through any special channel, provided that the mover's account is [[WP:AUTOCONFIRM|4 days old and has made 10 edits]]. This 4 days and 10 edits requirement should be easily reached simply by developing the draft.

Note that while a user page without the {{tl|Userspace draft}} template is a good free drafting space, it is not okay to make user pages that are [[WP:NOTWEBHOST|unrelated to work on Wikipedia]].
